FBI’s Jubal Gets a Shocking Makeover

Warning: Plot details for the seventh season’s tenth episode of FBI, titled “Redoubt,” which airs on CBS, are disclosed below. To watch it, you’ll need a subscription to Paramount+..

In the TV lineup for 2025, FBI had a heart-wrenching episode featuring Scola, but it was Jubal‘s turn in “Redoubt.” The week’s case held a special significance for Jeremy Sisto’s character because his longtime informant was involved and ended up at his home, interacting with Sam. This unexpected visit caused quite a scare, as it could have led to Jubal leaving his family home once more. However, his ex-wife had a different plan after witnessing his growth. In the final moments of “Redoubt,” they shared a kiss, and Sisto discussed how Season 7 is getting back on track for the ASAC.

In many episodes centered around Jubal, we see him dealing with the consequences of past actions fueled by alcohol or grappling with guilt for various reasons. So, I anticipated that Sam might ask Jubal to leave after an unexpected visit from Jubal’s CI at their home. Jubal was also bracing himself for this possibility. However, Sam recognized how Jubal had been a supportive figure for the children since moving back in, and he seemed to have undergone a transformation. Instead of losing his spot on the couch, Jubal ended up sharing a kiss with Sam.

Was it initially Jubal’s intention to relocate for the sake of his family’s security, or was he merely guessing that was what Sam preferred? This question was clarified by Jeremy Sisto in response to a query from TopMob.

Jubal had been striving diligently for a long time to reconcile with Sam, and he felt they were making progress. However, he recognized her reservations due to the hurt he had caused her in the past. It seemed like their history might push her away again, but Jubal didn’t want to force her into a decision if that was what she wanted. Nevertheless, he yearned for another chance with Sam, hoping to recreate the loving environment of his family. Given the inherent risks associated with his job, there would always be danger. He acknowledged this reality and also understood that any prospective partners had the freedom to decide whether or not they were willing to accept it.

Given that his previous partner tragically passed away during their relationship, it’s a testament to Jubal’s personal development that he now understands and respects each new partner’s decision regarding the level of danger they’re comfortable with in their lives. Fortunately for Jubal, Sam opted to take on the risk of having him by her side.

Although Jubal reacted swiftly, it seemed he wasn’t anticipating Sam’s sudden move at the end of “Redoubt.” Whether this marks a renewal of their past relationship with all its complications is yet to be determined. However, given Jeremy Sisto’s statement, it appears that Jubal might be fully committed, despite the fact that sailing on FBI seldom stays smooth for long. In his own words:

I’m confident that I’m well-prepared, but I understand that obstacles might arise. Frankly, I anticipate them. Yet, it could also turn out to be an effortless journey. It’s tough to predict, though. I suppose we’ll find out as time unfolds.

Hopefully, Jubal manages to avoid any obstacles that may arise due to ghosts from his past resurfacing. In “Redoubt,” it was necessary for his CI to step in when he was at his most vulnerable during his excessive drinking on duty.

Despite the necessity for him to conduct certain discussions with his Confidential Informant off-the-record during interrogations, Isobel had always stood by him firmly. Reflecting on their professional bond from their shared days on Law & Order, Jeremy Sisto (who collaborated with Alana De La Garza) speculated about the evolution of Jubal and Isobel’s relationship over the years:

Jubal admires working alongside Isobel greatly. He appreciates her ability to make tough calls and sometimes take risks for the greater good of their cases. Through her, he’s gained valuable insights into caring for team members while pushing them to excel. Their collaboration is seamless, despite the potential for conflict in their roles. Jubal graciously defers to Isobel when necessary, and she acknowledges his inspiring leadership style. Although it’s primarily a professional bond, at times it feels as close as family ties.

In the upcoming episode titled “Shelter,” Jubal appears to have a respite from his personal troubles. However, professionally speaking, things are about to get intense as a gunman attacks a homeless shelter. Tune in to CBS on Tuesday, February 11 at 8 p.m. ET to witness the unfolding events.
