Rihanna Shows Off Her Vocals as Smurfette in the First ‘Smurfs’ Trailer

Paramount Pictures has unveiled the initial teaser for their upcoming animated movie titled Smurfs, with Rihanna providing the voice for Smurfette. Besides giving the cherished blue figure a new existence, she also offers a rendition of Belinda Carlisle’s 1987 chart-topper “Heaven Is a Place on Earth.

The movie begins as Rihanna presents the story, leading us into the vibrant Smurf Village where her character, Smurfette, boasts about being the most trendy Smurf around. A fun-filled party commences, accompanied by Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop the Music,” but it is abruptly halted when Papa Smurf inexplicably disappears. Consequently, the Smurfs decide to take a perilous journey into the human realm to save their beloved leader.

As a dedicated fan myself, I’d like to share an exciting update: Not only did I lend my voice to Smurfette, but I also produced this fantastic film and crafted original tunes for its soundtrack! At CinemaCon 2023, I humorously admitted that I had aimed for the Papa Smurf role, but alas, it didn’t quite work out. Still, being a part of this project has been an incredible experience!

Under the guidance of directors Chris Miller and Matt Landon, the film Smurfs features a stellar ensemble cast that includes Rihanna, alongside heavyweights like John Goodman, Natasha Lyonne, Nick Offerman, Octavia Spencer, Sandra Oh, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, and Kurt Russell.

Smurfs is set to hit theaters on July 18. Watch the trailer above.
