During Super Bowl Sunday, James Gunn’s portrayal of Superman fell short of new viewers’ expectations, yet promotions for the upcoming DCU film continue full steam ahead. In fact, a thrilling TV commercial showcasing David Corenswet as Superman flying over snowy landscapes, reminiscent of Top Gun: Maverick, has been circulating. Regrettably, this scene was met with mixed reactions from fans, some suspecting excessive use of CGI to alter the actor’s facial features during flight. Contrary to speculation, Corenswet’s face was entirely CGI-free, but the controversy persisted. However, a fresh glimpse at Superman should alleviate concerns for most diehard fans of the legendary character.
A picture of a Superman toy box was shared online this week, showcasing an action figure of Krypto the Superdog at the center. In the upper left corner, a fresh depiction of Corenswent soaring as Steel Man is visible, and it might be the clearest representation of the character we’ve seen so far. While it can be tough to compare a still image with moving footage, it’s hard to deny the powerful stance and comic-true style.
Initially, the first ‘Superman’ trailer shattered records and sparked excitement among many moviegoers, but it wasn’t long before a contentious flight scene circulated online and ruffled some fan feathers. Gunn clarified that the actual Corenswet was indeed part of the disputed clip, and even the backdrop, including David himself, were authentic.
In his face, there’s no sign of computer-generated imagery (CG). It’s important to note that close-up shots with a wide-angle lens can make faces appear differently. Also, I want to clarify that the background scene in Svalbard is completely genuine, and so is David.
‘Superman’ Debuts a Wacky Preview During Super Bowl Sunday
Skipping the anticipated sneak peek during the Puppy Bowl, Superman fell short of expectations for avid viewers eagerly watching TV. However, DC revealed a fresh glimpse of Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, sporting a fitting bowl cut. This playful promo for the upcoming film showcases Gardner’s self-absorbed character and stays true to his comic book counterpart’s tacky side.
Needless to say, fans were not entirely thrilled with the teaser. Some are left questioning its intended audience, although fans of The Rookie might have a different opinion.
On Sunday during the Puppy Bowl, Krypto stole the spotlight, appearing in trailers for the upcoming movie on screen. A video clip shared by the official Superman account shows the Superdog frolicking with a sign. He’s incredibly cute, and it seems that he will be the primary focus of the film’s marketing strategy going forward. The summer release of this character could help fill theater seats with eager viewers, as there are many highly-anticipated blockbuster movies on the horizon.
