During the late 2000s and early 2010s, it’s safe to say that nothing in pop culture captivated audiences as much as the Twilight series. Actors like Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner became international sensations, and their characters Bella, Edward, and Jacob ignited debates about which “team” was superior. While Stewart and Pattinson went on to enjoy significant post-Twilight success, Lautner stepped away from the limelight for a while, but he’s back now, with a few select roles – including his latest, a meta-comedy titled Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter, which many believe could be his best work to date.
Following his appearance in Taylor Swift’s 2023 music video for “I Can See You”, the once-forgotten heartthrob is making a comeback with an extraordinary project that blends reality and fiction. Known as Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter, this series will find Lautner portraying a fictionalized version of himself, balancing his role as a prominent Hollywood actor with the covert duty of hunting werewolves in the shadows. Amazon MGM’s new venture, as revealed by Variety, will delve into how Lautner manages to keep these two lives separate.
Following the completion of the final “Twilight” movie, Taylor Lautner stepped out of the limelight, leading fans and gossip columns to wonder and speculate. However, the reality surpasses any fiction. Taylor wasn’t merely taking a break for his mental health. He was gearing up for his true destiny…Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter. Portraying himself, Taylor becomes embroiled in a clandestine group of werewolf hunters who require his unique skills. Balancing his life as a Hollywood actor during the day and a supernatural warrior at night, Taylor grapples with the ironic predicament of battling the very creatures that skyrocketed his fame. Caught between saving the world, rejuvenating his career, and falling in love, he encounters the ultimate conundrum—what transpires when your most significant role becomes your deadliest foe?
The independent studio Tornante, known for hit animated shows like BoJack Horseman and Undone (which had two seasons on Amazon), is developing Taylor Lautner’s series where he plays a werewolf hunter. Daisy Gardner, a comedian and writer with credits in 30 Rock and South Park, will serve as the creator and showrunner for this project.
Taylor Lautner Isn’t the Only Supernatural Star Returning to Screens
The actor once known for his role in “Twilight” is back in the realm of supernatural storytelling, joining other recognizable faces who have recently attempted another go at this genre. In 2023, the cast of “Teen Wolf” made a comeback several years after the series ended, debuting on Paramount+ as a movie. There’s strong motivation to revisit popular past projects, as these shows often cultivate a devoted fanbase, making a profitable revival more likely.
Apart from Lautner and the Teen Wolf crew, the latest instance of this scenario is clearly the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. Sarah Michelle Gellar will be coming back for the revival of Buffy, which is rumored to be starting development with Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao helming the pilot for Hulu. It has been more than two decades since fans last saw Gellar as Buffy, so the allure of revisiting a past success in Hollywood remains strong. However, when it comes to Lautner, it’s somewhat unexpected that he would reconnect with anything werewolf-related given his previous discontent towards the role that catapulted him to fame. Yet, certain opportunities are simply too appealing to resist.
