Today, it appears as if there’s a series about virtually anything out there. Given this vast array of options, it can be quite challenging not to miss out on exceptional shows buried deep within the mountain of content offered by various streaming platforms, many of which people may not even subscribe to. For those seeking top-notch TV shows that might have slipped past your notice, here are some hidden gems you can easily access.
Silo (Apple TV+)
There are some fantastic Apple TV+ series that haven’t garnered widespread attention due to the relatively small number of subscribers, with one such hidden gem being “Silo“. A captivating sci-fi drama spanning two seasons and soon to release a third, the show delves into a society residing in a colossal underground silo stretching 144 levels below ground. This dystopian world is both intense and mind-blowing.

Santa Clarita Diet (Netflix)
If you’re seeking an entertaining zombie series, you might want to check out Santa Clarita Diet. This show is bound to both terrify and amuse you. The story revolves around Drew Barrymore’s character, who transforms into a zombie after ingesting an ancient artifact. Now, her family embarks on a quest to find a cure for her unusual condition.

Devs (Hulu)
Nick Offerman’s top performances undoubtedly include the sci-fi drama ‘Devs.’ In this production by Alex Garland, we follow the tale of a software engineer who delves into the mystery surrounding her boyfriend’s death, an incident that occurred on his first day working with the Devs team at her company.

Anne With An E (Netflix)
Without a doubt, there hasn’t been a stronger plea for Netflix to resurrect a television show than “Anne with an E.” Spanning over three seasons, this heartwarming series is inspired by the 1908 novel and chronicles the life of Anne, a young girl living in the 1800s. By weaving a captivating tale around her character, it shows how she influences those around her profoundly. Packed with valuable lessons, this charming show is a must-watch.

Palm Royale (Apple TV+)
In the 1960s setting and featuring Kristen Wiig, Palm Royale tells the story of an ambitious dreamer who resolves to attain her goals by any means necessary. To accomplish this, she infiltrates the exclusive Palm Royale country club, learning from the wealthy members as she goes, with the aim of eventually achieving success herself. It’s a riotously funny tale!

The Traitors (Peacock)
Drawing inspiration from the Dutch show “De Verraders”, this reality competition is sure to leave you breathless with suspense and laughter. The series, titled “The Traitors”, revolves around a band of contestants engaged in a game reminiscent of “Clue” or “Mafia”. The participants collaborate to eliminate their rivals and emerge victorious in the main competition, while simultaneously unmasking those who are actually the Traitors. It’s an absolute riot and a delight to behold!

Severance (Apple TV+)
Although Apple TV+’s show “Severance” is quite renowned, many individuals seem to overlook it. The fundamental concept revolves around a corporation called Lumon, where the employees lead two distinct lives: an ‘Outie’, their personal life, and an ‘Innie’, their work life. The narrative then takes increasingly intricate turns.

The Staircase (Max)
According to its namesake documentary series, “The Staircase” is a dramatized retelling of a true-life murder case. In this tale, a crime novelist found himself under suspicion for the death of his wife who was discovered at the bottom of their staircase. This event sent ripples through his life and those around him, making for quite an intriguing television series. Both Colin Firth and Toni Collette deliver outstanding performances in this captivating production.

School Spirits (Paramount+)
Starring Peyton List, “School Spirits” is an engaging supernatural teen drama that promises to captivate you right from the start. The series revolves around a high school student who takes on the task of uncovering the mystery behind her disappearance in the afterlife, even as she continues to attend school in this spectral realm. Indeed, death seems unable to free her – such a tragic predicament!

Starring Colin Farrell, “Sugar” offers an engaging blend of drama and mystery, making it an excellent choice for binge-watching. The series unfolds as a private investigator in Los Angeles becomes embroiled in the intricate web of the media industry when a film producer enlists his help to uncover the disappearance of his granddaughter.

The Get Down (Netflix)
I can’t bear to let go of my resentment towards Netflix for ending The Get Down prematurely. This series, set in the 1970s Bronx, chronicles the journey of an ambitious aspiring musician amidst the rise of hip-hop culture. With terrific music and a talented youthful ensemble, it’s a must-watch!

No Good Deed (Netflix)
Originating from the mind of Liz Feldman, creator of “Dead to Me”, “No Good Deed” is a captivating series that leaves you questioning the secrets hidden within homes. This drama primarily focuses on California-based couples seeking homes for sale, unaware of the past of the current owners or the mysteries concealed behind those doors.

The Great (Hulu)
As a devoted viewer, I can’t help but credit the exceptional ensemble cast that truly elevates “The Great” into an extraordinary viewing experience. Yet, it’s not just the captivating performances that make this series a joy to immerse myself in; it’s also the delightful journey of binge-watching three seasons.
Loosely inspired by the life of Catherine the Great, one of Russia’s most influential monarchs, “The Great” takes us on an exhilarating ride as we witness her meteoric rise to power. While it’s clear that this show isn’t a historical account – oh boy, does it deliver an unforgettable rollercoaster ride!

My Lady Jane (Amazon Prime)
If you’re fond of the enemies-to-lovers trope, I highly recommend the series “My Lady Jane.” Featuring Emily Bader, this show is adapted from the book with the same title and revolves around Lady Jane Grey, who is compelled to marry Lord Guildford Dudley. Intriguingly, in this universe, people can morph into animals – trust me, describing it further might spoil it, so you should definitely check it out. It’s wonderfully preposterous and delightful, offering a truly enjoyable experience.

Dark (Netflix)
Originating from Germany, the science fiction show known as “Dark” is filled with intriguing twists. The narrative follows the residents of Winden who embark on a quest for explanations after a child mysteriously disappears, only to find themselves ensnared in a maze of conspiracy and the unknown. It’s recommended that you approach this series without prior knowledge.

The OA (Netflix)
The Netflix series, “The OA,” was unfairly cut short and had potential for much more exploration. The story revolves around a young woman who mysteriously reappears after being missing for three years, now able to see even though she was previously blind, self-identifying as the “OA.” To understand what this signifies, you’ll need to watch the show and uncover its secrets.

Lessons In Chemistry (Apple TV+)
Titled after its namesake, “Lessons in Chemistry” presents Brie Larson in a captivating role, narrating the tale of a chemist who embarks on an unconventional journey by launching her own feminist cooking show during the 1960s. In defiance of societal norms, she covertly educates housewives globally about scientific concepts they might have otherwise remained ignorant of.

The Devil’s Hour (Amazon Prime)
Among the outstanding shows available on Amazon Prime, “The Devil’s Hour” offers an enthralling narrative about a social worker who grapples with the pursuit of a ruthless serial killer, all while encountering peculiar supernatural occurrences in her personal life. Remarkably, it seems that these events are somehow intertwined. This series is nothing short of captivating, and I can’t get enough of it!

Rutherford Falls (Peacock)
Featuring Ed Helms, this comedy series is one I believe everyone could appreciate, unfortunately, it didn’t run for as long as we’d hoped. The show revolves around the tale of two friends, whose bond is strained when a statue representing Rutherford’s ancestor, a city founder, faces removal. While it’s inspired by real-life political events, it offers a humorous take on the situation.

Special Ops: Lioness (Paramount+)
Are you interested in watching Zoe Saldana display her fighting skills while retaining her human appearance rather than being a green or blue alien? If so, then the show “Special Ops: Lioness” could be right up your alley. This series revolves around a CIA agent who recruits female operatives, known as the Lionesses for their combat prowess. Indeed, this series is every bit as outstanding as you might expect.

Mr. And Mrs. Smith (Amazon Prime)
If you recall the film titled “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”, imagine a fresh twist on that theme with Donald Glover and Maya Erskine as the lead actors. The storyline is revamped to be both captivating and side-splittingly funny, and it’s now available for streaming on Amazon Prime. The series revolves around two individuals who assume agent roles while pretending to be a married couple during their missions. However, as you might expect, emotions start to complicate things.

Shrinking (Apple TV+)
As a film enthusiast, let me recommend another captivating series from the same creator as Ted Lasso – Shrinking. This show revolves around a therapist grappling with his wife’s demise, who takes an unconventional approach by openly sharing his thoughts about his patients’ issues and helping them find solutions in unique ways. I must warn you, Shrinking has left me emotionally shattered, yet I can’t help but watch it repeatedly.

Hazbin Hotel (Amazon Prime)
Without a doubt, “Hazbin Hotel” stands out as one of the most imaginative shows currently streaming on Amazon, meriting far more acclaim. This animated series primarily revolves around a Hell-born princess who endeavors to establish a rehabilitation program for souls that genuinely yearn for goodness and aspire to ascend to Heaven. Predictably, she encounters obstacles throughout her journey.

Slow Horses (Apple TV+)
Slow Horses offers us an engaging blend of dark humor and suspenseful espionage narrative. The television show, featuring Gary Oldman, follows the misadventures of MI5 agents who are not quite competent enough to be dismissed, yet not inept enough to avoid ‘slow horses’ duty – a designation for tasks with minimal urgency. However, their tranquil routine takes an unexpected turn when they unwittingly find themselves entangled in a major crime investigation within the British heartland.

Secret Level (Amazon Prime)
Produced by Tim Miller, “Secret Level” is an assortment of tales inspired by various video games, each episode showcasing a unique animation style to narrate distinct stories set within the universe of these games, like “Pac-Man, Honor of Kings, Concord, “and many others.

The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina (Netflix)
Following the storyline from the Archie Comics series, “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” portrays its title character as she navigates her maturity while facing a decision between embracing magic or remaining in the mortal world. As Sabrina delves deeper into the magical chaos, she uncovers increasingly ominous secrets about her coven and her family. I find the cast of “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” to be outstanding and thoroughly enjoy each member.

Midnight Mass (Netflix)
Mike Flanagan’s Netflix shows were quite well-received, though it seems some viewers may have overlooked “Midnight Mass.” This series centers around a young man returning home in an attempt to rebuild his life, but things take an unusual turn when a new priest arrives and endeavors to reignite the townspeople’s waning faith. However, this clergyman is not as he appears.

Archive 81 (Netflix)
I’m upset that Netflix decided to end “Archive 81” as it’s such an exceptional series. Based on a podcast with the same title, this show follows a man who is tasked with restoring video footage from an old documentary project. As he works, he becomes entwined in a mystery that puts his life at risk. There are numerous chilling moments throughout.

Manhunt (Apple TV+)
This captivating miniseries, titled “Manhunt,” promises an exhilarating journey. It delves into the narrative of Edwin Stanton as he pursues John Wilkes Booth, the man responsible for assassinating President Abraham Lincoln. Inspired by the real-life events detailed in the non-fiction book, “Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer,” this series is a thrilling portrayal of the hunt for the man who took the life of the revered president. And it’s truly remarkable!

Blue Eye Samurai (Netflix)
The Blue-Eyed Samurai, streaming on Netflix, is an animated series that truly warrants more recognition. This adult-targeted show narrates the journey of a woman living in feudal Japan who seeks vengeance against the Western man responsible for sexually assaulting and impregnating her mother long ago. The traumatic events have cast a shadow on the life of this blue-eyed heroine.

Blood Of Zeus (Netflix)
This adult-themed cartoon show is truly extraordinary, set in the realm of Ancient Greece, it centers around a character named Heron, who is half-god, being the offspring of Zeus. The storyline unfolds as he embarks on a mission to protect both Olympus and Earth from ancient threats.

Mrs. Davis (Peacock)
Starring Betty Gilpin, Mrs. Davis is essentially a sci-fi comedy revolving around a nun on a mission to demolish an artificial intelligence. However, her quest leads her into realms of secrets and madness. This series is an absolute blast to watch, with its zany narrative that keeps you hooked from start to finish, ensuring no dull moments in your entertainment.
There are tons of streaming shows available, but perhaps I’ve suggested a new one for you to check out. Any of these options would be excellent choices – and honestly, I feel like I’m about to dive into one myself.
