Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley Watched Herself In The Force Awakens For The First Time In Years, And I Did Not Have ‘Gym’ Viewing On My Bingo Card

This December symbolizes a decade since “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” hit cinemas. It significantly rejuvenated the “Star Wars” series and brought forth a fresh set of Jedi and Sith characters to the public eye. Despite many fans repeatedly watching the movie, one cast member has not done so as frequently. Lead actress Daisy Ridley confessed that she just now observed herself in her famous role while exercising at the gym.

Daisy Ridley doesn’t dislike watching herself on screen, as some actors have confessed they find it unpleasant, but rather she’s been preoccupied since the conclusion of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. However, as she shared with Collider, when the film aired on TV during her gym routine, she found herself tuning in for a brief moment to a movie that kickstarted her Hollywood journey. It seems the viewing was mostly enjoyable for her.

Over the period when “The Force Awakens” initially released, I had watched it approximately three times, and coincidentally, it played at the gym while I was exercising. Hence, I caught a glimpse of it quite recently. Interestingly, I’ve managed to distinguish myself as a viewer from the overall movie experience. However, I yearn to rewatch the film in its entirety. It’s never an easy feat, but when it was shown recently, I found myself saying ‘aww!’ and felt incredibly endearing watching my young self on screen.

Instead of watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the gym for the first time in years, it’s not immediately obvious that would be my choice. However, I can understand the attraction, especially considering if Kylo Ren and his Stormtroopers were chasing me, it would definitely drive me to run faster on the treadmill or pedal harder on a bike! Perhaps Ridley is starting a unique workout trend.

Approximately a decade after its debut, rewatching The Force Awakens might feel less emotionally charged now that some of the initial memories and harsh criticism surrounding Rey have softened. It’s worth noting that Ridley herself admitted to feeling quite anxious during her first read-through for the movie. Fortunately, she was under the guidance of Star Wars legend Carrie Fisher and received invaluable advice from her.

It might be wise for Ridley to refresh herself with the character, given that an upcoming “Star Wars” film focusing on Rey is currently being developed, with Ridley set to reappear as the character. Unfortunately, the unnamed project is still some time away, as another writer has recently been appointed to work on the script.

Fans of Star Wars are accustomed to patience, given that the prequel trilogy didn’t premiere until thirty-two years after Return of the Jedi was first shown in cinemas. At the very least, fans can take comfort in knowing that Disney and Lucasfilm aren’t rushing this project and aim to ensure it fits seamlessly into the chronology of events. Moreover, it’s reassuring to know that Daisy Ridley has been deeply involved in the development process, guaranteeing Rey’s legacy is secure under her guidance. Here’s hoping that Ridley gets a chance to rewatch The Force Awakens someday.

Currently, enthusiasts can relive Daisy Ridley’s portrayal of Rey by streaming the sequel trilogy with an active Disney+ account. Additionally, don’t forget to catch her in her latest role as Joey Locke in the British action thriller “Cleaner,” set to premiere in theaters on February 21st.
