The Marvel film franchise is making efforts to regain its momentum, as evidenced by the launch of “Captain America: Brave New World.” Yet, should Marvel face challenges ahead, there’s optimism for comic book enthusiasts with James Gunn’s forthcoming DC Universe. This season will unveil the first installment of the upcoming DC films within this fresh universe, starring Superman. Moreover, I can hardly wait for next summer and “Supergirl: World of Tomorrow.
There are a lot of reason to be excited about the upcoming Supergirl movie. It’s the first film starring the character in decades, which will set it apart from the previous DC universe in a big way right out of the gate. Also, the Supergirl cast includes an inspired choice with Jason Momoa taking on the role of Lobo – and a new fan-created movie poster on Instagram looks like just what I hope this movie will look like.

The picture may seem straightforward, but it sparks my curiosity for what comes next. Gathering these characters within one frame, potential adversaries in the plot yet potentially transforming into unforeseen partners, promises an intriguing tale ahead.
James Gunn’s Superman movie appears to follow a classic interpretation of the character, serving as a continuation in spirit of the Richard Donner films and even incorporating the original John Williams theme in the previews. On the other hand, Supergirl: World of Tomorrow promises an out-of-this-world tale, with Superman’s cousin discovering a life after Krypton that is dramatically different from what she knew.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, hearing the news that Jason Momoa had signed up to play Lobo really got my pulse racing! I’ve always known that Momoa wasn’t done with the DC Universe after Aquaman, and when James Gunn approached him for something new, I could feel the anticipation building. It’s no secret that Momoa has expressed a keen interest in portraying Lobo, the interstellar bounty hunter from DC Comics. And let me tell you, whatever project Gunn had up his sleeve clearly had Momoa buzzing with excitement! Many fans had already speculated that this moment was coming, but receiving official confirmation just made it all the more thrilling.
The film titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” has just commenced shooting, with a scheduled release in summer 2026. This movie will appear on the big screen roughly a year following “Superman”, making it the second DC movie to hit theaters and potentially the fourth project within the expansive DC universe. “Creature Commandos” marked the start of this franchise, and while no specific date has been announced yet, it’s anticipated that “Peacemaker” Season 2 will be released later in this year.
In contrast to numerous DC projects, such as two distinct Batman films (Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II” and the DCU’s “Batman: The Brave And The Bold”) that seem perpetually in development, it’s thrilling to learn about another upcoming movie. The upcoming film, “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow“, offers a unique twist on the character, which could potentially attract an audience segment that might not be interested in the other big-screen adaptation due to the connection between the characters. There’s plenty of diverse content to look forward to within the DC universe.
