If the significance of a week can be described as “shock and awe,” imagine the impact of Holy Week.
In season 5, “The Chosen” will immerse us further into the lives of Jesus and His disciples, allowing us to walk alongside them at this pivotal point in their journey.
Or, as the show’s official synopsis teases, “The most pivotal week in human history.”
The show inspired by the New Testament is preparing for the launch of a season, according to Executive Director Dallas Jenkins, said to be their most elaborate yet. This season concludes with the depiction of the Last Supper.
The situation is reversed, friendships are broken, and influential figures conspire to bring about the demise of Jesus, as hinted by the season overview.
On Sunday, a potentially game-changing alliance was unveiled during a live broadcast, as Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, together with Traci Blackwell, the company’s development executive, and Dallas Jenkins, along with Amanda Jenkins, officially announced their extensive partnership.
They also shared an earnest, heart-to-heart conversation with viewers.
Jenkins and Blackwell recognized that some fans might worry that the agreement could contradict the biblical foundation of their series, which additionally portrays believable, though not strictly biblical, human encounters with Jesus.
The show allows for complete creative control to be held by Jenkins and the original writers, ensuring their vision remains intact.
Moreover, as Amazon MGM acquires exclusive rights for both theatrical showings and streaming, “The Chosen” app will persist in providing all seasons to viewers’ devices at no cost, although there may be a delay in availability until after the content has been streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
Amazon’s MGM Studios plans to unveil “The Chosen” Season Five in cinemas during Easter week, specifically on March 28th. Subsequently, starting from June, the season will be available for streaming exclusively on Prime Video within the United States.
Streaming services are planned to expand later this year, reaching countries like the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, as well as Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa. This expansion comes after rigorous translations to accommodate various languages.
It’s not unexpected that “trust” was a significant aspect in the broadcasted declaration, given its role. When Jenkins inquired about the words he would address to the devoted viewers of the show, Sanders started off by saying, “Trust us,” before elaborating on the reasons behind it.
In today’s skeptical era, this particular saying may seem questionable or even distasteful at times. However, it carried a unique impact during the conversation between Jenkins, Sanders, and Blackwell.
In all likelihood, individuals living in ancient societies may have faced familiar challenges in establishing trust, as they grappled with internal conflicts stemming from frequent encounters with an unreliable external environment.
Jenkins frequently encourages his audience to seek answers to queries, uncertainties, and issues related to the show within the Bible itself. He describes the series as “flawed television created by flawed individuals,” implying that the teams behind it at Amazon MGM are also fallible.
What, then, fosters mutual trust among individuals to achieve the purposes of God’s realm?
Jenkins stated that for a number of years, the team at Amazon MGM Studios has consistently demonstrated their enthusiasm for this series and our audience. By working with them, we’ll improve and expand the show’s reach, and I’m eager to nurture this partnership,” Jenkins expressed.
Despite the recurring theme of betrayals in Season Five serving as a reminder that our world has its flaws, similar to salt-laden foundations, an inspiring storyline from the Bible is the capacity for individuals to cultivate faith and build trustworthy relationships based on their hearts. This innate human ability originates from the Son of Man’s arrival in this world to understand us, serve us, and save us through the boundless love of the Rock of Ages. Even when the mountains erode into the sea, this divine presence remains steadfast.
The Bible encourages us to transition from being frightened by obstacles, to having faith that we can move mountains, in the name of Jesus.
In ‘The Chosen’, we see Jonathan Roumie portray Jesus, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene, Shahar Isaac as Simon Peter, and Paras Patel as Matthew. Through multiple seasons, each disciple’s character has been skillfully crafted, creating a rich backstory that intensifies the lead-up to the Last Supper with great impact.
The series predominantly unfolds in Jerusalem, yet it’s known for interweaving scenes that connect various biblical events throughout different eras.
In this agreement, Amazon additionally acquires distribution privileges for Seasons Six and Seven of the series. These seasons are set to depict, in turn, the events of the crucifixion and the resurrection.
5&2 Studios, led by Jenkins, is looking forward to developing more programs besides their main show, all of which are part of the Amazon MGM collaboration. One such project is “The Chosen Adventures,” an animated family series featuring well-known actors lending their voices to Biblical characters, similar to those from the popular series “The Chosen.
5&2 is additionally set to debut “The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls,” an unscripted, reality series that combines wilderness exploration and interviews with celebrities and crew members from “The Chosen” as they encounter unfamiliar terrains and challenges.
In these current times, I find myself deeply captivated by the profound transformations unfolding around us. Stories delving into the divine mysteries, illuminating the enigmatic nature of higher powers, hold a special significance and deserve to take center stage in our modern-day entertainment.
With “The Chosen” gaining increased popularity and promotion, people from all over the country and globe are hopeful for an authentic and inspiring portrayal of the Gospel’s message.
