‘Sicario’ Hits Netflix on March 1: Get Ready for Intense Thrills!

Attention fans of Taylor Sheridan and Denis Villeneuve! The action-packed thriller, Sicario, is set to find its new home on Netflix starting March 1, 2025. Written by Sheridan and directed by Villeneuve, this film is a testament to the brilliance of these two exceptional talents from the cinematic world. Released in 2015, Sicario was met with widespread critical acclaim, earning a remarkable 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences were equally captivated by its gripping storyline, giving it an “A-” Cinema Score. Not only did the film impress critics and viewers alike, but it also proved to be a moderate financial success, generating $85 million at the box office with a budget of just $30 million.

For those who haven’t experienced it yet, the film “Sicario” focuses on FBI agent Kate Macer, portrayed by Emily Blunt. She is given a mission by an enigmatic task force aiming to reduce drug-related violence at the U.S.-Mexico border. However, Agent Macer soon discovers that the intentions of the task force’s leader, played by Josh Brolin, may not be as straightforward as she initially thought. Benicio Del Toro, Daniel Kaluuya, and Jon Bernthal also star in this gripping crime thriller filled with unexpected twists.

The acclaimed movie “Sicario” had numerous victories, which prompted a follow-up titled “Sicario: Day of the Soldado,” written by Taylor Sheridan but directed by Stefano Sollima. Even though Emily Blunt and Denis Villeneuve decided not to return for the second film, it still managed to impress both viewers and critics, sparking curiosity about the possibility of a third installment in the series.

Will There Be a ‘Sicario 3’?

Following two impressive installments, viewers are eagerly awaiting the release of the next movie in the Sicario series. Fortunately, we had the opportunity to converse with the film’s creators about this topic. Regrettably, their response may not live up to expectations.

We’ve been chatting quite a bit, brainstorming and deliberating about it. Those movies hold a special place for me, they’re near and dear to my heart. I believe it’s an outstanding franchise. You see, Denis [Villeneuve] has truly set the bar high, and everyone involved – from the creators to our talented actors – have gone on to achieve greatness. Taylor [Sheridan] even has his own universe, so I think it’s crucial for us to determine a plan that makes sense to reunite this fantastic team. Ideally, we’d like to get all three actors back on board in an ideal scenario.

As a movie enthusiast, I must admit it’s not entirely surprising. Taylor Sheridan, the brilliant mind behind both “Sicario” and its sequel, has been quite the prolific creative force in Tinseltown these days. After the massive success of “Yellowstone,” he’s been consistently involved with one project or another – many of which are spin-offs from the beloved Western genre. Up next is Season 2 of “1923,” set to premiere on Sunday, February 23.

Despite Sicario being one of the top-rated films in 2015, neither Taylor Sheridan nor Denis Villeneuve experienced Academy success until their subsequent projects, Hell or High Water and Arrival respectively. Interestingly, Sheridan was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the 2017 Oscars for his work on Hell or High Water, while Villeneuve was recognized in the Best Achievement in Directing category for Arrival the following year. Regrettably, neither filmmaker received the award, but they have both continued to thrive since then. Sheridan continues to be active in television, creating the expanding Yellowstone universe, and Villeneuve is currently working on the third installment of the Dune series, scheduled to commence filming this summer.
