EXCLUSIVE: Mismatched star Prajakta Koli recalls ‘nervousness’ during auditions before bagging series with Rohit Saraf; ‘It is very…’

Prajakta Koli’s transformation from content creator to the star of a popular show is truly amazing and motivating. Yet, despite her success in the romantic drama series Mismatched alongside Rohit Saraf, she openly shared that she used to feel anxious during auditions prior to landing the role.

During our conversation, Prajakta Koli shared that she received a call from casting director Panchami Ghavri Malani back in July 2019. This call led to her being selected for roles in both Mismatched and Jugjugg Jeeyo.

She mentioned, “At one point, they told me about a show, back then it was known as ‘When Dimple Met Rishi’ because that’s the title of Sandhya Menon’s book, and it is adapted from her book. They said RSVP and Netflix are creating this show, and for the character of Dimple, you might have to audition.

Back then, I was thrilled beyond words when a call came in, revealing a tantalizing secret: RSVP and Netflix were bringing Sandhya Menon’s beloved novel “When Dimple Met Rishi” to life as a show! The excitement coursed through me like electricity, and the role I yearned for more than anything was none other than Dimple herself. I simply had to audition!

She added, “I’ve generally improved lately, but at that time I was quite anxious. The auditions made me extremely nervous because I was going to Ramnagar, which is quite intimidating since you don’t know who you’ll meet and if you’re new, you won’t even know who you’ll be sitting next to for a scene. That was very nerve-wracking for me. I said to my friend, ‘The audition process is nerve-racking because I don’t know where I’m going, who I’ll meet there, and if it’s someone I haven’t met before, I’ll have to sit next to them right away and perform a scene. That’s extremely intimidating for me.’

Initially, auditions used to terrify me, largely due to my apprehension about going to Ramnagar. The unfamiliarity of the place and the unknown faces made it quite daunting. As a novice, I found it particularly overwhelming. Encountering strangers who expected me to perform a scene on the spot was nerve-wracking for me. However, despite my fears, I gathered my courage and participated in the audition.

After they called me to say “We’ve liked your audition”, I told them once that a certain boy with whom I would dance is also required to undergo testing. When I first met Rohit, we took the test together, which is how things turned out in the end.

Following my audition, I got a call informing me they appreciated my performance but requested a joint test with another actor I would be working with. I agreed, which is how I was introduced to Rohit for the first time. Together, we completed the test, and that’s how our collaboration came to fruition.

The first season of Netflix’s show Mismatched was released in 2020.
