Meghan Markle‘s recently unveiled lifestyle brand, “As Ever,” has found itself embroiled in disputes just a few days following its announcement.
I’ve found myself in a bit of a pickle lately, as some folks on social media have pointed out that my personal brand, Meghan, mirrors an existing clothing company based in New York City and New Jersey named As Ever. It’s definitely something I wasn’t aware of before, and I’m now trying to figure out the best way to navigate this situation.
On Monday, Markle shared on Instagram the launch of her new brand, As Ever. “Perhaps some of you have caught wind of what I’ve been working on,” she penned. “I’m excited to present to you As Ever – a project that I’ve conceived and put my heart into.”
Instead of using the exact phrases, I used synonyms and rephrased certain parts for better readability)
As a dedicated enthusiast, I can’t help but express that this brand is an organic extension of my own heart language, artfully blending together all the passions that resonate deeply within me – culinary delights, tending to nature, hosting memorable gatherings, embracing mindful living, and discovering simple joys in everyday life. Mark your calendars for its grand unveiling in Spring 2025!
On Tuesday, the clothing label As Ever, established in 2017, issued a statement addressing the situation with Meghan Markle’s brand. Co-founder Mark Kolski expressed gratitude to their longtime supporters and welcomed new followers on their Instagram. He acknowledged the surge of support and concern regarding recent events involving their namesake brand within the past 36 hours. Kolski clarified that As Ever is not associated with Meghan Markle’s brand.
Later on, Kolski shared with The Daily Mail that he became aware of Markle’s latest endeavor upon receiving a message from a friend, and that he is actively seeking guidance from numerous experts within the legal profession.
After Duchess Meghan’s announcement on Monday, some social media users have criticized her for using a similar name for her new brand, with one person commenting on X (previously Twitter), “The term ‘As Ever’ is quite popular among fashion enthusiasts in New York City. Meghan Markle seems to have taken their name without proper research!” Another user wrote, “Meghan Markle has chosen the same name as an existing and trademarked clothing store – As Ever. It wasn’t her brand they stole, but she attempted to take theirs.
The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Markle’s rep for comment.
Her announcement of her fresh lifestyle brand arrives as her Netflix series titled “With Love, Meghan” is scheduled for release on March 4th. Originally slated for a January debut, the show’s launch got pushed back because of the wildfires in Los Angeles.
