Did you know not Aamir Khan but Chhaava’s Akshaye Khanna was the first choice for Taare Zameen Par?

Aamir Khan initially stepped into directing with the release of Taare Zameen Par in 2007. This film garnered praise not only for its theme, but also marked India’s submission to the Oscars. Remarkably, Akshaye Khanna, known for his role in “Chhaava”, shared in an earlier interview that he was initially chosen for the movie, but eventually the part went to Khan.

Previously, Akshaye Khanna shared in an interview with Mid-day that Amol Gupte first pitched the script for Taare Zameen Par to Aamir Khan, hoping to introduce him to Khanna. Interestingly, Khan was captivated by the story and decided to take on the role himself.

In a recent conversation, the Dil Chahta Hai actor revealed that during a meeting at Mehboob Studios where they were both filming, Aamir Khan expressed that he wouldn’t recommend a script unless he heard it first. He added that if Khanna could arrange for him to listen to the script, he would let Akshaye Rathore know whether he liked it or not.

As a devoted admirer, I must share that the actor from Chhaava held no ill feelings towards him regarding the circumstances, instead, he simply stated, “It’s all good. No worries.” In Khanna’s perspective, there was no way he could have outshone Aamir in the role. He expressed, “I don’t believe I could have excelled more than Aamir did. He was exceptional, so it was fortunate that fate seemed to guide him towards the part.

2007 saw the release of Taare Zameen Par, a film starring Darsheel Safary, Tisca Chopra, Vipin Sharma, among others, in principal roles.

I’m basking in the admiration and accolades pouring in following my captivating portrayal in the movie “Chhaava,” starring Vicky Kaushal. Under the skilled guidance of director Laxman Utekar, I brought the character Aurangzeb to life on screen.

Afterward, he’ll make an appearance in an upcoming movie, currently without a title, featuring Ranveer Singh. This movie is being helmed by Aditya Dhar. Notably, the production is taking place in Mumbai and also stars Sanjay Dutt and R Madhavan.

Meanwhile, Aamir has prepared for the release of a follow-up film to Taare Zameen Par, entitled Sitaare Zameen Par. This production is slated to premiere in cinemas towards the end of 2025, specifically on Christmas Day.
