For several years, Mindy Kaling has been a consistent presence in Hollywood, starting fortuitously on “The Office” and now finishing Season 3 of “Sex Lives Of College Girls.” Though her portfolio boasts numerous impressive ventures, one that holds a special place for me is “The Mindy Project.” As I perused the premiere images for her upcoming Netflix series, “Running Point,” it struck me: a beloved actor from the 2012 show, Ike Barinholtz, was present. And this encounter has me yearning for more interactions between them.
The title-bearing TV series from the 2010s, in which the pair had previously collaborated, centered around Mindy Lahiri, a gynecologist living in New York City. We followed her life as it navigated through various highs and lows. In the early episodes of the first season, Morgan Tookers, portrayed by Ike Barinholtz who was also a writer on the show, is introduced as a nurse with a comically dubious background, hired out of necessity. Morgan pursues Mindy’s approval in a humorous manner until they eventually become friends. The comedic dynamics between Kaling and Barinholtz, playing doctor and nurse respectively, are what I most enjoy about this Fox show.
The Mindy Project Reunion of Kaling and Ike Barinholtz At The Running Point Premiere Made Me Happy
On the 13th of February, I was part of the exciting carpet premiere for the upcoming “Running Point” series, set to air on the 27th of the same month. Notably present were Mindy Kaling and Kate Hudson, alongside Brenda Song, Max Greenfield, and Drew Tarver, among others. However, it was when I learned that Ike Barinholtz was collaborating with the Ocean’s 8 actress off-screen that everyone else seemed to fade into the background for me. You see, the same spark of humor between Mindy and Morgan (as I know her) shone brightly as they laughed their way through photos together.
Gazing at this photo featuring Kate Hudson, David Stassen, and the other two individuals brings an unavoidable thought: they seem to carry the same sparkle in their eyes that Schulman & Associates (the office from TMP) was known for. As a fan, I can’t help but yearn for them to be back in front of the camera again. They remind me of my contemporary Abbott & Costello duo.
With This Kaling-Barinholtz Reunion Behind The Camera Makes Me Want One In Front of The Camera
The aspect that I’m most looking forward to in our upcoming Netflix series, set to air later this year, is the reuniting of her with Ike Barinholtz, and it has me all worked up! Although I’m optimistic about the forthcoming basketball comedy, what truly excites me is the prospect of seeing these two together for a new project. To be honest, I’d gladly watch them in anything – even if they were cooking or unboxing on a personal YouTube channel! Or perhaps an adventure through space or a historical drama! Regardless of the genre, I’ll definitely be tuning in, and who knows? There might even be potential for a Mindy Project revival at some point.
Currently, the actress from Late Night has recently been honored with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has a new show, Not Suitable For Work, greenlit in New York City. She’s also diligently working on Legally Blonde 3, which fans have been eagerly waiting for. In the meantime, Barinholtz is scheduled to appear in The Studio and is actively involved in both acting in and producing a movie titled Happy Life (directed by a colleague from Running Point). It remains to be seen if their paths cross in any of these projects, but I’m definitely hoping they do.

‘The Final Episode of “The Sex Lives of College Girls” Season 3: A Discussion on its Creation – I Wish More Shows Learn from This Approach’
I’m quite pleased if there’s any reunion or revival of “The Mindy Project” nowadays. Fingers crossed that “Running Point” shares the same vibe or spirit to keep me entertained until Mindy Kaling and Ike Barinholtz work together again, behind the camera. If you fancy reliving, or experiencing for the first time, their brilliant on-screen comedy, you can do so by streaming “The Mindy Project” with a Hulu subscription.
