Steve Martin says the SNL50 “COVID curse” is real.
On a post made on Thursday, the actor from “Only Murders in the Building” disclosed that his fellow cast member Martin Short and friend had tested positive for COVID-19 following their attendance at the “SNL50: The Anniversary Special”, which was aired last weekend. Additionally, he mentioned that Maya Rudolph, another performer at the special who also attended, had contracted the virus too.
Maya and Marty were found to have Covid. Martin questioned why this was happening. He believes that the ‘SNL 50th Anniversary Covid curse’ is indeed true,” Martin commented as he posted a picture of Short and Rudolph affectionately hugging each other. Martin had kicked off the special with his opening monologue, while Rudolph also took part in sketches during the event.

Due to Short’s illness, Martin indicates that they will need to rearrange their performances scheduled for this weekend in Durham, North Carolina, and Knoxville, Tennessee.
I regret to inform you that our sold-out shows in Durham and Knoxville this weekend need to be rescheduled. They will now take place on October 17th in Knoxville and October 18th in Durham. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but I believe we’ll put on a better show then.” – Martin.
The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to reps for Short and Rudolph.
By chance, at the SNL 50th anniversary special, Colin Jost cracked a jest regarding the possibility that those present might fall ill. In the “Weekend Update” section of the show, Jost made a light-hearted comment about having so many comedy greats gathered in one studio all at once.
Amidst the simultaneous surges of COVID, influenza, RSV, and nanovirus, health professionals are under growing strain, a situation being referred to as a quadruple epidemic,” Jost humorously pointed out. “In response, we wisely crammed every well-known entertainer above 60 into a compact area.
A multitude of former SNL performers and guest stars gathered to commemorate the significant birthday of the popular variety sketch show on Sunday. Performers who graced the stage included Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, John Mulaney, Fred Armisen, Kristen Wiig, Pete Davidson, Rachel Dratch, among others. Meanwhile, Tom Hanks, Sabrina Carpenter, Pedro Pascal, Jason Momoa, Bad Bunny, Ryan Reynolds, and Blake Lively were some of the big names in the audience or who made appearances in sketches.
On Sunday night, I tuned in to the live “SNL50: The Anniversary Special” on NBC and Peacock, and I was blown away by the massive viewership! According to Nielsen ratings and internal data from NBCUniversal, a whopping 14.8 million fans like me were glued to their screens, making it quite an unforgettable spectacle!
