Suits LA Star Reveals Why She Wasn’t Surprised by Major Plot Twist

Warning: SPOILERS for the Suits LA episode “Seven Days a Week and Twice on Sunday” are ahead!

If you’ve seen the TV show Suits, whether it was originally on USA Network or became popular on Netflix, you’re aware that the series was full of conflicts and shifting alliances. One moment, two main characters could be the closest friends, then suddenly they’d find themselves at odds due to a disagreement or revelation. In an unexpected turn, the premiere episode of Suits LA in the 2025 TV lineup saw Erica Rollins, played by Lex Scott Davis, choosing Stephen Amell’s character Ted Black over Josh McDermitt’s Stuart Lane. Although this decision might have taken many viewers by surprise, Davis revealed to TopMob why she didn’t find it surprising when she first read the script.

Indeed, instead of accepting Stuart’s proposal to become a spy within Ted Black’s law firm for the promise of a comfortable position at another firm, Erica chose to remain faithful to Ted due to his longstanding trust in her. When I asked Lex Scott Davis about her reaction to this scenario in the Suits LA pilot script, she replied:

It’s no shock to me that Erica stayed put. Given her loyalty and commitment, I expected nothing less. Despite their occasional disagreements, I believe Ted recognizes her worth and true character in the workplace. When things started falling apart, it seemed only natural for Erica to remain. Though we may have teased about whether she would stay or go, I’m not taken aback by her decision to stand by him.

As a devoted admirer of all things Suits, I felt compelled to weigh in on the recent chatter about Suits L.A. being too reminiscent of the original series. While I understand and respect the opinions of fellow fans, allow me to share my thoughts as the man behind the character.

From where I stand, both shows have unique elements that make them distinct. The original Suits, with its fast-paced New York City setting and the unforgettable chemistry between Mike Ross and Harvey Specter, will forever hold a special place in my heart. On the other hand, Suits L.A. offers an intriguing new perspective, delving into the world of the West Coast’s legal landscape and introducing fresh characters with their own compelling stories.

In essence, I believe that both shows are like two sides of the same coin – they share some similarities but each has its own unique charm and allure. As an actor, I am excited to explore these differences and bring these dynamic characters to life for fans new and old. So, let’s embrace the journey ahead and enjoy the ride as we discover what Suits L.A. has in store!

In the premiere episode of Suits LA, Ted, who co-managed a law firm with Stuart for more than a decade, finally sealed a deal to merge their firm with one run by Samantha, Ted’s ex-romantic partner. After a night of festivities with Stuart, Ted was abruptly woken up by a call from Rick Dodsen (played by Bryan Greenberg) revealing that Stuart had secretly taken all senior staff members in every department except sports and entertainment to work at Samantha’s law firm. This sneaky move by Stuart was his way of retaliating against Ted for speaking negatively about him during the negotiations for the merger.

In an unfortunate turn of events, Stuart phoned Eric and suggested she remain at Ted’s law firm and spy on him for half a year, promising to transfer him to Samantha’s law firm and make her the head of entertainment. However, Erica declined that proposition and chose to stay with Ted. As Lex Scott Davis explained to me, Stephen Amell’s character recognized her potential since her initial month at the firm. Initially, Stuart believed they should only assign diverse clients to her, but Ted felt she was capable of handling any type of client. He was confident she would thrive (swim), stating, “I’d bet a hundred dollars on this one succeeding, and I’d do so every day of the week, even Sundays.

In light of the show of trust, Erica Rollins opted to continue working alongside Ted Black during this complicated separation, and she now holds the position of entertainment head at the company. This wasn’t her initial choice, as Rick Dodsen was initially slated for the role. However, unwilling to adopt Ted’s ruthless tactics, and disagreeing with his decision to defend actor Lester Thompson, who was accused of murder, Rick chose instead to team up with Stuart Lane at a different firm. With Rick no longer here, Erica now needs to demonstrate that she is the more suitable candidate for the job, even if Rick had remained in the picture.

In her fresh role, we’ll observe Erica Rollins and notice her choosing a side even before the outcome is clear, which is quite unusual for her. As the new episodes of Suits LA start airing every Sunday at 9 pm ET on NBC, let me remind you that if you wish to re-watch the original Suits, it’s available with a Netflix subscription and can also be found on Peacock.
