In the anime series “One Piece,” Monkey D. Luffy initiated the Straw Hat Pirates, and his first recruit was Roronoa Zoro, a skilled swordsman practicing the Three Sword Style who aspires to be the world’s greatest swordsman. Mackenyu portrays Zoro in Netflix’s live-action version of Eiichiro Oda’s manga, and during an interview for Season 2, he mentioned a significant objective he had for his character within “One Piece.” However, what truly caught my attention was the intriguing detail he revealed incidentally in the same conversation.
Get Ready For A More Badass Zoro in One Piece Season 2
Approximately several weeks following the announcement that “One Piece” completed filming its second season, an interview with Mackenyu on Crunchyroll emerged. In this conversation, he was inquired about his experience reprising Zoro for these upcoming episodes. His response was:
During the initial season, I aimed to figure out how to animate Zoro effectively, with that being my primary focus for that period. However, in contrast, for the second season, my goal shifted towards making him more lethal and charismatic, essentially enhancing the awesomeness of this character.
In the second season of “One Piece,” the narrative will follow events from Loguetown, Reverse Mountain (Twin Cape), Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island as depicted in the manga/anime. This means there’ll be plenty of opportunities for Mackenyu’s Roronoa Zoro to display even greater badassery. Particularly noteworthy is when Zoro single-handedly confronts Baroque Works operatives on Whiskey Peak. Additionally, audiences can expect to see Zoro undergoing rigorous training in the harsh conditions of Drum Island. So, get ready for an exciting upgrade in Zoro’s abilities during Season 2! (Spoiler warning: This information may be revealing for those who only watch the live-action show and wish to approach Season 2 without prior knowledge.)
Apparently One Piece Season 3 Is A Go
As I pen these words, it’s yet to be officially confirmed by Netflix that we’ll see Season 3 of “One Piece.” Yet, hearing Mackenyu’s recent statement has me hopeful. When asked about his upcoming projects, he mentioned something that had fans waiting with bated breath: a third season!
Moving forward, the following series we’re working on is actually the second season of “One Piece.” Before diving into “One Piece” Season 3 later this year, I regret to inform you that I can’t share any details about the interim projects, so I’m afraid there won’t be much excitement for you until then.
It’s important to note that One Piece Season 3 hasn’t been confirmed by Netflix yet, but when one of the main cast members speaks up, it’s not something to dismiss lightly. I was hoping that a decision on Season 3 had already been made because it seems unlikely that Season 2 will air in 2025 as previously scheduled. The prolonged wait is disappointing, but if we start production on Season 3 earlier rather than waiting for Season 2 to be released, we could expect a shorter gap between seasons compared to the time between Seasons 1 and 2.
Currently, you’re free to start watching Season 1 of “One Piece” on Netflix with your account. Additionally, keep in mind that Netflix is also hosting the remake of the original “One Piece” anime series, which you can stream as well.
