John Abraham, a renowned Bollywood actor, is preparing for his comeback to the silver screen with the upcoming thriller “The Diplomat“, featuring Sadia Khateeb. Lately, he’s spoken out about movies being branded as ‘propaganda’. Additionally, he shared his opinions on secularism, implying that both the film industry and society at large may no longer embody the levels of secularism they once did.
In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter India, John Abraham expressed his viewpoint that we may not be as tolerant and inclusive as we once were, even within the film industry itself. Emphasizing the significance of preserving a harmonious cultural tapestry in India, he pointed out that the entertainment sector is currently facing a delicate situation. He also touched upon the ongoing discussion about certain movies being branded as propaganda, reflecting on the intricacies and challenges associated with this topic.
John continued the conversation about the influence of movies and audience interpretations. Recognizing that some films, such as “The Kashmir Files,” have been branded as propaganda, he nonetheless highlighted their power in narrative delivery. He explained, “If someone calls a film like ‘The Kashmir Files’ or similar ones a propaganda movie, from a regular moviegoer’s perspective, it was impactful. The story truly resonated.
In simpler terms, he stated that it’s not his role to decide whether the movie was propaganda or not, as he is merely a spectator enjoying cinema. To him, if a narrative moves him and makes an impact, then the praise should go to the filmmaker who crafted the story.
During the same interview, The Diplomat’s actor likewise commended Chhaava for its triumph and influence in drawing viewers back to cinemas. He disclosed that he had personally congratulated Vicky Kaushal and producer Dinesh Vijan, expressing his delight over the movie’s reception. In his opinion, such endeavors in filmmaking deserve recognition and applause.
Apart from that, he recognized the efforts of movie makers and performers within the field who aim to produce significant films and instigate transformation. In expressing his desires, John expressed his wish for The Diplomat to surprise people and contribute positively to the evolution of cinema.
