Peter Safran, one of the co-chief executives at DC Studios, has officially shared updates on the future of “The Batman” – both within and beyond the DC Universe. This is music to the ears of fans who’ve grown fond of director Matt Reeves‘ vision and actor Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of the iconic superhero. Despite the persistent setbacks in the launch of “The Batman Part II,” Safran has confirmed that the “Elseworlds” series will span three movies, implying a continuation for this beloved iteration.
As a movie enthusiast, I’m excited to share that Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight will carry on his own unique saga, distinct from the main DC Universe, which is set to introduce its own Batman in the upcoming “The Brave and the Bold.” In a chat with The Nerds of Color, Matt Reeves confirmed that his universe, encompassing the critically praised HBO series “The Penguin” and potentially other spin-offs, will operate independently from the DCU and its offshoots like Clayface. Much like Christopher Nolan’s predecessor, “The Batman” is expected to conclude after three films, paving the way for a separate narrative in the world of Gotham City.
In our universe, it’s Matt Reeves’ vision that stands alone. His crime-focused narrative, as seen in his Batman trilogy and The Penguin series, is unique within the DC Studios realm. Although these projects remain under our umbrella, they have a special connection with Matt. One key aspect we wanted to incorporate was Clayface into the DC Universe, serving as an origin story for a classic Batman adversary.
Robert Pattinson Will Not Be The Batman in the DCU
Since James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC, there’s been speculation about whether Robert Pattinson’s Batman character would be integrated into the DC Universe. However, it seems that this question has now been answered definitively, with Gunn confirming that “It’s not part of the plan. It’s definitely not.” Safran also added…
We adore him, but it’s necessary to bring in a new Batman character for the DC Universe. It’s crucial, and that’s what we’re planning with The Brave and the Bold.”
This version maintains the original’s meaning while making it more conversational and easier to understand.
In contrast to how The Batman portrayed a younger iteration of the crime-fighting vigilante during his initial years, The Brave and the Bold will delve into the later stages of the superhero’s career. This film will introduce Damian Wayne, Batman’s son and the latest Robin. Directed by Andy Muschietti, who has previously worked on It and The Flash, The Brave and the Bold promises to incorporate a unique father-son relationship between Bruce and Damian, offering a fresh perspective to the Batman series for viewers at large.
Regarding “The Batman 2”, the plot remains unclear at this point, but its lead actor Robert Pattinson has hinted that he’s privy to some intriguing details and is quite enthusiastic about them. However, the release of both “The Batman Part II” and another upcoming film have been postponed several times, with the former now scheduled for October 1, 2027. When asked if these two Bat-man films might impact each other’s release dates, producer Safran has reassured fans that a Batman movie will indeed be released in October 2027, leaving us to speculate which one it will be.
