Dave Bautista, famously recognized for his portrayal of Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), expresses a desire to see more of his character within the franchise. Despite the MCU continuing, Drax’s storyline seems to be set in an earlier time, giving the impression it’s part of Hollywood’s past. Currently, Bautista is involved in other projects, but he fondly recalls the role that opened doors for him in the film industry.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Bautista portrayed Drax in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy and various other titles. He continued his role in “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” and the Disney+ series “What If…?.” Following his debut, Drax gained significant popularity among fans due to his endearing naivety, which is highlighted even in theme park attractions. Despite this, he primarily functioned as a supporting character throughout the franchise.
According to Cinema Blend, Bautista expressed a desire for Marvel to reconsider his character Drax and potentially give him a larger role. In an interview with Jake Hamilton, the actor hinted at wanting a movie centered around Drax, telling the story from Drax’s perspective, although he didn’t explicitly use the term “spin-off.” Bautista’s latest film, “In the Lost Lands,” features his character addressing the audience directly. When asked about a character from all his movies that he would like to see doing a similar intro, this was the one Bautista mentioned.
Among all options, Drax seems to be the most promising character. I find Drax intriguing because if given a chance to narrate his entire tale, our dialogue would undoubtedly be filled with both sweet and poignant moments. Unfortunately, Marvel didn’t seem to share this sentiment, which left me quite frustrated.
I believe it would make for an incredibly engaging discussion due to the unique way Drax expresses himself, as well as his heartfelt talks about his family, personal history, and his sorrow over past losses, but also his joy in his newfound connections. It seems like a captivating dialogue that audiences would enjoy watching directly.
Dave Bautista’s Career After His Run in the MCU Is Nothing Short of Impressive
Following his role in “Guardians of the Galaxy”, Dave Bautista’s acting career underwent a significant transformation. He moved beyond being typecast as a large, combative figure in secondary roles. The ex-wrestler demonstrated his acting capabilities in films such as “Bushwick”, “Blade Runner 2049”, “Hotel Artemis”, and both adaptations of “Dune”. Bautista also managed to remain active in the action genre, appearing in sequels of “Guardians of the Galaxy” and the zombie-themed action film “Army of the Dead”.
In his latest films such as “Knock at the Cabin” and “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery”, Bautista has managed to break away from his typical roles, which is quite significant. Yet, he remains open to reprising Drax in future projects. Moreover, he’s expressed an interest in joining the DC Universe and securing a role in the upcoming “Gears of War” adaptation. Here’s hoping that any future role for him will offer more screen time compared to his character, Drax the Destroyer.
