Reacher Season 3: Reacher’s Dark Secret Unveiled!

Warning: Spoilers for Reacher Season 3, Episode 4.

After rejoining Prime Video, I must say the latest season of “Reacher” is undeniably its best so far. The first season certainly raised the bar high, and it’s been a challenge to surpass it. However, I believe we can all concur that Season 3 has already outshone Season 2 significantly. As the season progresses, Reacher (Alan Ritchson) seems ever closer to taking down Xavier Quinn (Brian Tee). Moreover, there’s a growing suspicion that he might be the mastermind behind it all, Julius McCabe. The fourth episode left no doubt about his sinister nature.

Reacher Realizes Quinn and McCabe Might Be One and the Same

With Reacher assuming the position of Johnny Berchtold’s (Richard Beck) lieutenant, he has strategically placed himself for a potential confrontation with Quinn in the future. It’s quite impressive how swiftly this arrangement fell into place considering he’s only been associated with the team for a short while, but let’s move on. As always, Reacher delivers results promptly. Having reached his desired position, he takes a brief detour to the cabin to update Duffy (Sonya Cassidy) and the other agents about his new responsibilities.

Upon their arrival, Reacher and his companions suspect that Quinn and McCabe could be one and the same. Although the series hasn’t explicitly confirmed this, it has hinted at a connection between the two characters. However, we haven’t seen Quinn interact with anyone as McCabe, which leaves room for doubt. It’s plausible that Quinn is just another character like Beck, serving a specific role in the story. If the show follows its usual pattern, the true villain might not be revealed until later in the season. Therefore, while it seems likely that Quinn and McCabe are the same person, I’m hesitant to accept it as fact until more evidence is presented.

In a surprising turn of events, the assumptions concerning Quinn and McCabe lead to a deeply touching narrative from Reacher, revealing the reason behind his intense desire to bring down Quinn this season. It was an episode that tugged at heartstrings, as we discovered why Reacher has such a strong personal connection to this case. We’d always known it was personal for him, since he believed Quinn was responsible for a death years ago. But with the revelation of what happened to Dominique Kohl (Mariah Robinson), viewers can now grasp the weight of Reacher’s intentions in this storyline.

Reacher Tells Duffy About His History With Quinn

During his military service, Reacher found himself partnered with Kohl to probe into Quinn’s illicit trading of military secrets to adversarial nations. As they delved deeper into the case and chased leads, a mutual admiration grew between them. Kohl was the type who valued integrity and took great care in executing her duties diligently. With every detail meticulously checked and all dots carefully connected, it was finally time to bring Quinn to justice.

Reacher ensured that it was Kohl who carried out the arrest. She had worked hard for it, so he felt she deserved the success, and he didn’t want to undermine her achievement. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as expected, and Kohl fell into Quinn’s hands, getting tortured at one of his secluded locations. It wasn’t until a strange text message from Kohl addressed him as “Sir” that Reacher became suspicious. On their initial encounter, he had instructed her to call him simply ‘Reacher,’ and she was the kind of person who didn’t need reminders twice.

Upon finding Kohl hanging in the barn at Quinn’s property, Reacher’s discovery of her battered and bloodied body was a stark and unsettling sight that caused me to pause. In that moment, all aspects of Reacher’s intentions this season became crystal clear to me. I find myself aligned with Reacher, as it seems that Quinn should meet his end, preferably soon.

When Reacher encountered Quinn, he accused Kohl of being part of the scheme and subsequently betraying him. It was evident that Reacher wasn’t fooled. Without skipping a heartbeat, Reacher escorted Quinn to the brink of a nearby precipice and fired his own weapon, sending Quinn plummeting into the river below. Although it seemed like Quinn met his end there, Reacher, ever wary from his experience, understands that “in investigations, assumptions can be lethal.” Now, Reacher is relentless in his pursuit of verifying Quinn’s demise.

Duffy Reveals Why She Feels Guilty About Her Missing Informant

After Reacher’s tale, it comes to light that Duffy’s relationship with her missing informant wasn’t as she led others to believe. In reality, Duffy didn’t persuade Teresa (Storm Steenson) to work for Beck; instead, she pressured her into it. She fabricated a threat of jail time based on a lie and compelled Teresa to act against her will. With Teresa now missing, Duffy’s feelings of guilt are driving every action she takes.

Although it’s evident that both Duffy and Reacher share similar emotions, those feelings stem from distinct decisions they’ve made. Duffy’s actions involve deceit for personal gain, which complicates her actions more than Reacher’s ever would. Reacher, being a man of integrity, would never resort to such tactics, and it’s clear that he finds Duffy’s choices questionable based on his response.

Now that all secrets have been exposed, they carry on with their investigation. Reacher heads back to Beck’s estate, while Duffy and Villanueva (Roberto Montesinos) pick up the hunt for Teresa. As they go through the list of properties found on Angel Doll’s (Manuel Rodriguez-Saenz) seized laptop, they remain oblivious that it has been traced. With Beck’s henchmen moving in on their position, it seems the upcoming episode will start with a shootout.

Here’s to wishing there won’t be any more distressing and energy-sapping flashbacks like the ones in Reacher’s story, as it was already tough enough. Currently airing on Amazon Prime Video, Reacher Season 3 unveils new episodes every Thursday.
