How to trap and capture monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds
Catching a beast involves first making it weak during combat, then employing traps and sedatives. Unfortunately, the game isn’t very forthcoming with necessary details. Keeping track of your items can sometimes become challenging, adding to the complexity and potential for misunderstandings.
How to craft traps and tranquilizers
Here’s how to make traps in Monster Hunter Wilds:
- Purchase a Trap Tool from the Provisioner NPC at any base.
- Go to your tent to craft either a Pitfall Trap or a Shock Trap:
- Pitfall Trap: Requires 1x Trap Tool and 1x Net – You can craft a Net by using 1x Ivy and 1x Spider Web.
- Shock Trap: Requires 1x Trap Tool and 1x Thunderbug Capacitor.
Before you leave, ensure you carry several items similar to tranquilizers with you too. Examples are:
This way, the sentence is easier to understand and more conversational in tone. It maintains the original meaning while making it more approachable for a wider audience.
- Tranq Bomb: Requires 1x Sleep Herb and 1x Parashroom
- Tranq Blade: Requires 1x Tranq Bomb and 1x Throwing Knife (you have an infinite number of these).
- Tranq Ammo: Requires 1x Tranq Bomb and 1x Normal Ammo (you have an infinite number of these).
It’s good to carry multiple Tranquilizer Bombs with you. Don’t forget to store your Pitfall or Shock Trap, along with the Tranquilizer Bomb, in your inventory pouch.
How to set up traps
Currently, what remains is for you to engage in a fight against a specific beast until it becomes significantly weakened. Keep an eye out as a message will appear on the right side of your screen instructing you to set traps. Additionally, you’ll observe the creature hobbling off towards another location. Track it and usually, you’ll find it resting due to its injuries in most instances.
Set a trap close by and then confront the monster later on. Lure the creature towards you by moving closer to the trap. When the trap goes off, pull out some Tranq Bombs from your inventory pouch and throw them at the monster until it’s rendered unconscious.
It’s crucial to remember that when a creature is weakened, it’s best to discard any AI ally accompanying you during your quest, as their attacks might inadvertently slay the monster instead. To do this, simply click on the Start button and navigate to the Missions & Quests tab. From there, select Support Hunter Info and remove the AI teammates from your party.
What’s the difference between capturing and slaying a monster?
In Monster Hunter Wilds, when you catch a monster instead of killing it, you’ll still gather materials as part of your rewards, but unlike slain monsters, you won’t be able to carve its corpse. Generally speaking, main quests involve hunting or slaying creatures, and capturing them alive is usually not necessary unless specific missions explicitly demand it.
That does it for our guide on how to trap and capture monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds.
