Prada FW25 Is All Grown Up

At a recent Prada fashion show, frizzy hairstyles, textured wool reminiscent of boiled fabric, and paper-like skirt hems were the standout trends for their Fall/Winter 2025 women’s collection. Designer Miuccia Prada posed thoughtful questions about the relationship between contemporary beauty standards, clothing, and how they influence each other. She wondered aloud if garments could reshape our perception of beauty, and conversely, how beauty could lead us to reimagine fashion itself.

The fashion show was held on the same stage as the FW25 men’s collection. The industrial metal framework and patterned carpet were designed to create strong feelings of contrast. Traditional ideas of youth were reinvented and presented as maturity, redefining familiar shapes in a fresh context.

The performance began with a procession of charcoal outfits that seemed loose and flowing, accentuated by the models’ bare faces and disheveled hair. In past shows, Miuccia Prada experimented with static-charged hair for Miu Miu’s lively Fall/Winter 23 collection. This time, she brought back this style under more subdued circumstances.

Moving from youth to maturity was essential. Mini skirts with pleats were combined with crumpled button-ups, then layered under long coats and low-profile sneakers called Keds. In contrast to the last few seasons, delicate windswept summer dresses grew into oversized floral gowns resembling paper dolls, while loose ribbons turned into stiff wool and leather scarves, matching their cardigans and jackets.

The transition from being young to becoming an adult was crucial. Mini skirts with pleats were teamed up with crumpled button-down shirts, followed by long coats and discreet Keds. The fashion of the previous seasons’ breezy summer dresses barely there, evolved into large floral gowns reminiscent of paper dolls, while flowing ribbons transformed into thicker wool and leather scarves to match their cardigans and jackets.

This year, it’s clear that (fake) fur has stolen the show, and designers Miuccia and Raf have taken this trend to new heights by building upon their previous ideas with faux fur. For example, in the FW25 menswear collection, we saw enormous faux fur collars adorning overcoats that were worn as dresses. Additionally, faux fur was given a glossy finish through lamination, and a blazer was creatively dismantled, featuring contrasting sections of faux fur on the body and lapel.

Over the past few years, if Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons were creating outfits for children engaged in pretend play, they have matured their designs significantly now.
