Over the last ten years, the Public Art Initiative at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum has revitalized the city’s streets with striking, thought-provoking pieces of art. Now, the museum is inviting these talented artists to exhibit indoors through Hi-Vis, an exhibition honoring their accomplishments. Featuring renowned artists such as FUTURA 2000, Shantell Martin, Felipe Pantone and others, this showcase underscores the significant influence public art has had on Buffalo.
The exhibition titled Hi-Vis is situated on the third level of the recently constructed Jeffrey E. Gundlach Building within the museum, and it will be ongoing until June 9, 2025. This exhibit is meticulously organized by the museum’s Public Art Team consisting of Aaron Ott, Eric Jones, and Zack Boehler, who have significantly contributed to the aesthetic character of Buffalo by playing pivotal roles in its visual development.
In addition to the display, the museum has created a documentary titled “Hi-Vis: A Decade of Public Art” that looks back on the project’s progression.
Through inviting these artists into the museum, Hi-Vis serves as a link between public and institutional art, exposing fresh viewers to the richness of their creations. This isn’t just a retrospective; it’s a tribute to how public art persistently influences urban landscapes, neighborhoods, and our evolving understanding of street art.
