At long last, Monster Hunter Wilds has arrived, and eager hunters are gearing up for another round of questing! As players delve into the game, they’re discovering fresh features like Focus Mode, portable cooking options, and the option to customize weapons using your Seikret. There’s a wealth of secrets waiting to be unearthed in Capcom’s latest installment of the blockbuster Monster Hunter franchise, and this week marks only the start of the adventure!
In Monster Hunter Wilds, fishing reappears as a feature. This mini-game might be familiar to seasoned players from previous titles, including the more recent ones such as World and Rise. Yet, with Monster Hunter Wilds boasting an abundance of plants, animals, and a vast, interconnected open world, the activity of hunting endemic life can seem dauntingly extensive.
Should you be having trouble locating the specific Gravid Bowfin, here’s an easy-to-follow guide on catching it:
If your search for the Gravid Bowfin is proving challenging, I have a straightforward guide to help you catch one:
1. The Quest Giver Can Be Found in the Scarlet Forest
On your trek through the Prohibited Realms and finding yourself within the Vermilion Woodland, you’ll run into an NPC who is quite passionate about fishing – a common figure in Monster Hunter games. She imparts her knowledge of fishing techniques on you, even offering Emerald Lures to help you start your newfound hobby.
Once you’ve accomplished a sufficient number of side tasks for her, she’ll start requesting harder-to-find catches, which may make you wonder at times about the initial purpose of your actions.
In this game, this Non-Player Character (NPC) is your primary source of knowledge about fishing. She assigns you a challenging quest: locating the rare Gravid Bowfin, a difficult-to-find fish that cannot be discovered using regular methods.
2. Head to the Oasis Area During the Season of Plenty
As a gamer, I’d say: “To bag a Gravid Bowfin, you should make your way to the Oasis region in the Windward Plains when the Season of Abundance is upon us. You’ll recognize this time by the flourishing native life all around and the absence of any threatening thunderstorms or stormy skies.

Search for the Pregnant Bowfin in the pond. Use your binoculars to identify a long, eel-like fish with an orange tint. Remember not to confuse it with the Green Bowfin, which predominantly has a green coloration; instead, focus on the fish that appears orange.
3. Equip the Emerald Bait
To successfully catch a Pregnant Bowfin, you’ll need the Emerald Lure. This item is given to you by the Fisherwoman NPC at the start of your quest, so don’t fret as it’s inexhaustible. Make sure to keep it on hand, or catching this fish might take an excessively long time without it.

After attaching the bait, toss it close to the lake where you can spot the orange outline of a fish. Be ready to wait as this task needs patience. If the fish doesn’t bite straight away, try tempting it by jiggling the control stick (on PS5). Once you sense the vibration on your DualSense controller, that signals it’s time to pull in using R2. Upon catching the fish, quickly teleport back to the Fisherwoman NPC at Scarlet Forest Base Camp to finish the quest.
