In the game Avowed, you’ll encounter a variety of distinct adversaries and bosses, each equipped with unique skills and capabilities that might take you by surprise if you’re not cautious. You may have already encountered some challenging enemies while traversing the Living Lands. Whether it’s due to being under-equipped, unaware of the enemy’s vulnerabilities or strengths, or overwhelmed by a horde of nearby minions, no foe in Avowed is invincible; with the right preparation, they can all be defeated eventually.
[Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Avowed.]
In various main regions like Dawnshore and Galawain’s Tusks, you may encounter formidable foes that could pose a challenge. If these enemies give you trouble, think about altering your playstyle or utilizing the distinct weapons or armor in your Avowed arsenal for an advantage. Knowledge is power in Avowed, and understanding these tough opponents might make them seem less daunting when you know what to anticipate.
10. Thalla The Taskmaster Is One Of The First Tough Bosses
Leader Of The Sparrowhawks In Paradis
One of the initial challenging bosses in Dawnshore is called Thalla the Taskmaster. He can be quite formidable, especially if you find yourself unexpectedly confronting him and his gang, right before you could restock on health elixirs. Thalla possesses several area-of-effect attacks that span a broad area, so you’ll need to dodge frequently to avoid them.
It might be wise to eliminate his henchmen prior to Thalla reaching the alleyway, to provide some space for maneuvering. While Thalla isn’t the toughest boss in the game, he is definitely one of the hardest you’ll encounter early on. He can be frozen quite easily, and the vines and brambles prove helpful in slowing him down.
9. Iscern The Dreamscourged Ogre Can Poison You Easily
He Guards The Emerald Stair Starmetal Fragment
In the Damp Burrow of Emerald Stair, within the Rolling Crags region, adjacent to the party camp, lies a hidden cave where Iscern can be discovered. This area is protected by numerous spider-like creatures who are guarding a valuable Starmetal Fragment for Emerald Stair. Iscern is particularly challenging due to his formidable ranged attack that inflicts poison rapidly, and the surrounding Woodcrawler spiders that continuously attack with their poisonous venom.
It’s wise to keep some antidotes at the ready, like Springberries, and it’s crucial to avoid getting too close for his stamp attack. The stamp has a broad area of effect and will make the small cave where you battle him quite cramped, so aim to keep from being pinned in a tight spot.
8. Old Nuna, Bear Menace Of The Grotto Can Pose As a Serious Challenge
Don’t Poke The Bear
In this scenario, “Old Nuna” is one of a select few formidable bear leaders who will pose a significant challenge if you lack proper gear or are not at an appropriate level. Beware, for Old Nuna and the swarm of spore-infested adversaries in the cave are all vulnerable to Fire damage. Enter this cave under the assumption that defeating the target will be a swift and effortless task, and you may find yourself unpleasantly surprised. You can locate Old Nuna within a cave nestled in the Ancient Grotto, situated just west of the Naku Tedek Grounds.
Before Old Nuna awakens, there’s a chance to execute a stealthy assault, but be cautious not to reveal yourself to any spore foes. Attempting it too soon could lead to trouble. Moreover, you might want to grab the “Sheathed in Summer” dagger, which is great for dealing Fire damage, that Octav the Firebrand leaves behind before your final confrontation with Old Nuna.
7. Moi Piki The Earth Blight Is A Challenging Bounty Target
This Blight Has A Thing For Beetles
In Shatterscarp, Moi Piki stands out as a persistent blight on the earth and a challenging prize among numerous bounty targets. The main challenge in taking down Moi Piki is the swarms of colossal elder Adra beetles it commands, which inhabit the nearby regions. These bugs are abundant and can quickly overwhelm you or your allies if they’re not properly equipped.
Moreover, Moi Piki exhibits resistance to most types of elemental damage, making it a formidable foe when encountered in its beetle-infested domain.
The strategy here is to make your associates divert the beetles, allowing you to attack Moi Piki, or alternatively, to eliminate the beetles initially before concentrating all efforts on Moi Piki. This bounty target can be found in the northeastern part of Deadfall Highlands, near the Godless Ruins.
6. Xaurip Chieftan Grithin Will Swarm You If You’re Not Prepared
Mind The Gap
In the game “Avowed,” the target you seek is located high up on a colossal pillar smack dab in the heart of the Great Sand Sea, specifically in Shatterscarp. Chieftan Grithin, however, is not an adversary to underestimate. He’s nestled in this perilous terrain and location, surrounded by hordes of Xaurip minions. To make matters worse, he wields a sweeping staff that forces you to dodge precariously close to the edge. To confront Chieftan Grithin, you’ll need to summon your parkour skills and scale the mountain pillar.
At that height, you’ll find yourself surrounded by smaller Xaurip adversaries as well as their leader. The edge is precarious, with few obstacles to prevent a fall, so remember to avoid over-zealous power slides or accidental dodges that could lead to a fatal drop.
5. Beating Ygwulf The Assassin Is Worth The Reward
A Rebel With A Cause
Leaving Dawnshore, you’ll face a crucial decision: to either eliminate or spare Ygwulf. If you wish to obtain his exceptional Blackwing Armor, a highly sought-after light armor set in the game, particularly for stealth ranger or assassin builds, you’ll need to defeat him. Keep in mind that Ygwulf is swift and has numerous allies, so you can expect attacks from both short and long ranges during this battle.
If you’ve increased your skills and maximized your equipment, he isn’t as formidable an opponent when it comes to progressing the main story. Crucially, be aware that attacking Ygwulf might prompt hidden rebel attacks in Paradis, which means you should expect additional confrontations on your journey from the city towards Emerald Stair.
4. Sibelius The Skeleton Master Caster Can Do Brutal Frost Attacks
Guardian Of Ancient Alacrity
In your journey towards the Garden, you may encounter Sibelius – a formidable adversary who is often accompanied by numerous skeleton combatants, priests, wraiths, and shadow summons within his chamber. This makes him one of the more challenging skeleton enemies to face due to the sheer number of opponents he brings along. Furthermore, beware of his powerful Frost attacks that can potentially slow you down if not dodged skillfully. Among these are a freezing beam attack causing significant frost buildup and substantial damage.
In the vicinity, a group of skeletal adversaries is lurking, adding an extra layer of challenge to your mission. Similar to other skeleton foes, these enemies have priests among their ranks who possess the ability to intermittently heal all their allies, making it tougher to defeat each one individually. In the game ‘Avowed’, there’s a unique and powerful weapon – the Ancient Alacrity bow – hidden behind Sibelius in the chamber, which you might find useful against these enemies.
3. Ryngram’s Summons Can Be Devastating
Prepare For An Onslaught Of Undead
As you advance through the main tale and arrive at Naku Kubel, you’ll eventually find yourself battling a sequence of enemies that Ryngram herself doesn’t engage in combat with. This confrontation involves tough waves of skeleton warriors, barbarians, and Greater Ash Blights, which can prove challenging and frustrating. Additionally, there will be skeleton priests to defeat, and you should be mindful of the firebombs released by the blights.
This upcoming battle is one you won’t want to miss as it moves the main plot forward, however, if you’ve been neglecting side missions or delaying upgrades, you might need to revisit this area at a later time. If your Power Slide and Power Jump abilities are fully upgraded, you can easily defeat clusters of weaker skeleton foes or knock them down instead.
2. You Will EventuallY Fight Captain Aelfyr, And It Won’t Be Easy
Kill Her Early For Some Fancy Gloves
Captain Aelfyr is frequently encountered in the game Avowed, and is a loyalist to Inquisitor Lodwyn whom you’ll inevitably have to engage in combat, although she can be challenged earlier if you opt to eliminate her during your journey from Emerald Stair. Whether you confront her early or later on, she proves to be formidable in either case, but for distinct reasons. Towards the end of Emerald Stair, she commands a group of Steel Garrote soldiers and clerics who show remarkable persistence.
If you choose not to battle her at Emerald Stair, you’ll encounter her again when you get to Galawain’s Tusks, and by then she’ll be stronger due to leveling up. However, she won’t have the Steel Garrote as a weapon. Regardless of when you fight her, once you defeat her, you’ll receive the Death Knight Gloves as a reward. But if you manage to kill her at the end of Emerald Stair, you can use the gloves sooner.
1. Come Well Prepared For Inquisitor Lodwyn
Put An End To The Inquisition
In the game “Avowed,” Inquisitor Lodwyn serves as the final boss. To defeat her, you’ll need a robust character setup, completely enhanced equipment, and a knack for strategically utilizing your companions. Lodwyn is swift and packs quite a punch with her attacks, so it’s essential to know how to dodge or find a way to lessen the impact of her blows. What makes Lodwyn challenging is that she enters a second phase once defeated and recovers with a second wind move.
1) Inquisitor Lodwyn will hurl anything he gets his hands on at you, so it’s strongly advised to acquire elemental resistances. If you haven’t obtained any exceptional weapons from Avowed as of yet, the right equipment could tip the balance when facing Inquisitor Lodwyn.
2) Lodwyn will chuck anything within reach at you, and I can’t stress enough the importance of having elemental resistance. If you haven’t obtained the top-tier unique weapons in Avowed so far, the appropriate gear could make all the difference when battling Inquisitor Lodwyn.
3) Lodwyn will hurl everything and anything your way, making it crucial to have elemental resistance. If you haven’t managed to get hold of some unique weapons from Avowed yet, the perfect setup might be just what you need when going up against Inquisitor Lodwyn.
4) Lodwyn will toss whatever he can at you, making it essential to have elemental resistance. If you haven’t obtained any special weapons in Avowed so far, the ideal setup could turn the tables on Inquisitor Lodwyn.
