Many still mourn the passing of esteemed actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, following their recent discovery dead in their New Mexico residence, alongside their pet dog. The ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths has left many questioning the facts, but close friends and neighbors who knew the couple intimately are sharing their memories of them in the wake of this tragedy.
Daniel and Barbara Lenihan resided approximately ten minutes from Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa in New Mexico, having been acquainted with them for numerous years. According to the Lenihans, their last interaction with their late friends occurred roughly two to three weeks ago. During this period, Brendan Lenihan, who is 41 years old, had conversed with Arakawa about the impending arrival of his second child. As Barbara, aged 75, remembered:
Brendan informed Betsy that it was a boy, which made her quite thrilled. The message wasn’t particularly lengthy, yet he was eagerly awaiting her response soon.
As reported by the news source, Daniel Lenihan, aged 79, apparently knew the late 95-year-old Oscar winner from way back in 1992. He and his wife, Mrs. Lenihan, seem to have developed a close personal bond with the esteemed actor and his spouse, whom they referred to as simply “very kind people.” Mr. Lenihan also described the star of Bonnie and Clyde as “intense,” but it sounds like he held Mr. Hackman in high regard.
Gene was a person who, whenever he had a new thought or plan regarding something we were writing, doing, or simply wanted to do, you could hear in his voice that the idea was particularly significant to him and he would present it as if it were a command directly from the Almighty.
Barbara Lenihan described Gene Hackman as a multitalented individual, much like someone from the Renaissance period. Meanwhile, she acknowledged Betsy Arakawa, who was 64 at the time of her demise, as an intelligent and humorous woman with a keen wit. The Lenihans’ son Aaron (38) recalled Hackman as being incredibly kind, honest, and possessing a great deal of integrity.
After his death, numerous tributes were paid to Gene Hackman by fellow actors, some of whom also reminisced about their experiences working with him. For example, Bill Murray remembered collaborating with Hackman on “The Royal Tenenbaums,” where it’s said that the late actor asked for a large number of retakes for a specific scene. The impact of Hackman’s career was significant, as he played leading roles in classic films such as “The French Connection,” “Unforgiven,” “Hoosiers,” and “Superman” – one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.
Currently, no definitive cause of death has been identified for the recently deceased celebrity and his spouse. No indications of suspicious activity have been found, but the circumstances surrounding their deaths are being considered unusual. Additionally, some items, such as a thyroid medication, Tylenol, and Diltiazem, were discovered in the Hackman-Arakawa residence. Notably, Hackman’s daughters have stated that he was in excellent health before his passing.
The outcome of the police inquiry is still uncertain for the time being. Meanwhile, our sympathies go out to the loved ones of Gene Hackman, Betsy Arakawa, and the Lenihans during this difficult time.
