Each year at the Academy Awards, there are some predictable traditions that never seem to change. The show tends to run overtime, sparking complaints about how many trophies go to independent films versus big-budget blockbusters, and the tribute to departed stars often leaves out a few notable names. This year, as I watch the 2025 Oscars unfold before me (you can catch up with our live blog), I can’t help but notice that the in memoriam segment has followed suit by omitting a beloved actress: Michelle Trachtenberg.
90s children everywhere felt a poignant sorrow this week upon hearing that the actress who played Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Harriet The Spy had tragically passed away at 39. Although she was not acknowledged during the Oscars ceremony, it’s important to note that her name can be found among all the other talented individuals on the Academy Awards’ In Memoriam website tribute.
In addition to those who were spotlighted during the broadcast, several other notable figures such as Shannen Doherty, Olivia Hussey, Linda Lavin, Bernard Hill, and Martin Mull were honored on a memorial website.
