CBS has decided not to renew SWAT for another season, as they announced on Thursday night. Previously, the series was both canceled and revived by the network on two separate occasions.
Andrew Dettmann, the showrunner and executive producer, expressed his sadness in a statement about the news, stating that it’s been an immense joy working with such an exceptional cast and crew to create a show we’ve always taken pride in. This team is truly extraordinary, working tirelessly for eight seasons and facing numerous obstacles together. I can’t praise them enough for their dedication and hard work.
In 2023, CBS ended SWAT after its sixth season, but later changed their mind and marketed the seventh series as the final one. However, in April 2024, they unexpectedly revived it for an eighth season. At that time, Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, stated, “We at CBS are always flexible and enjoy a good dramatic turn, particularly when it means another season of SWAT.
SWAT, which is a remake of the 1975 ABC series, features Shemar Moore as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. Shawn Ryan and Dettmann serve as executive producers alongside Justin Lin, Neal H. Moritz, Marney Hochman, Pavun Shetty, Billy Gierhart, Moore, and James Scura.
Working on SWAT for eight seasons has been an extraordinary honor, as we’ve brought Hondo and 20-Squad’s stories to life.
