Warning: spoilers for Matlock Season 1, Episode 14, called “Game Day” are in play.
In 2025’s television lineup, I’ve been captivated by the rollercoaster ride that is the story of Matlock’s lead character. Last week, the unexpected friendship between Kathy Bates and Beau Bridges was established, a bond I didn’t want to see come to an end. This week, “Game Day” added another layer of emotional turmoil, reminiscent of the heart-wrenching tale in Fox and the Hound. The twist, however, was even more disheartening as it brought back a character we thought had been removed from the plot. While it’s possible that this person is behind the recent events, I have a feeling that another party might still be the real culprit.
Matlock May Have Put Olympia Back On The Welbrexa Clue Board
If you’re a fan of intriguing legal tales, the latest episode of Matlock seemed somewhat reminiscent of the cunning plot in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The reason I say this is that, with Edwin (played by Sam Anderson) lending a hand, we were once again reminded about the crucial aspects of any strong case: motive and access to opportunity.
Ultimately, those two factors became evident through two imaginative scenes enacted by Madeline to solve the problem. The initial scene she concocted was a meeting in a parking lot reminiscent of “All The President’s Men,” where Shae (Yael Grobglas) and Julian (Jason Ritter) were involved, with Shae receiving a hint from Julian about something significant that could shake the ground.
Claiming it was a mistake that marketing papers were emailed to Jacobson Moore by an intern, Julian subsequently fabricated his father’s signature and presented the documents with the intention of destroying them himself.
In the recent advancements concerning the Slamm’d class action lawsuit, it has come to light that Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) could be heavily reliant on this case. Notably, fresh details about Matlock’s central enigma emerged. It appears that Julian’s key card records might not be entirely accurate due to a potential cover-up by Olympia – she may have used his card herself.
On the day of the file theft, Julian was spotted at a coffee bar (previously known as a shredding room), the ladies’ room, and Olympia’s old office. These discoveries, particularly the latter, triggered Madeline’s second imaginative sequence, where she felt devastated by what seemed to be Olympia’s betrayal.
Reaching her friend’s present workplace, the recent disappointing verdict in court didn’t deter her resolve to uncover the truth. Taking a brief pause for surprise, I re-evaluated the situation and believe an alternative version of events may be possible.

Hooray, Shae Is Still In Play
A timeless piece of advice seems fitting for Madeline Kingston at this stage of her Matlock adventure. You’re likely aware that truth often resides somewhere between both sides involved in a story, and I believe this principle is particularly relevant here. Although Shae Watch experienced some minor ups and downs, such as the possibility of a reunion with Sarah (Leah Lewis), it seems we may witness much larger fluctuations ahead.
If it’s indeed true that she was the one possessing Julian’s key card during the day of the file’s theft, it seems an opportunity has arisen, yet we must carefully consider her motive to fully progress in our investigation.
In light of the information from these imagined situations, it seems that The Meerkat might have inadvertently disclosed something confidential, leading her to conceal her actions. This is followed by Shae’s romantic involvement with Julian during the Welbrexa case, and the subsequent trail of evidence on his access card.

As a dedicated cinephile, I’m speculating that, even though we’re not quite at the end of Matlock‘s first season, CBS’ decision to renew for a second season might mean that Madeline Kingston’s Welbrexa campaign will continue indefinitely. The build-up to a massive cliffhanger is definitely setting the stage for some thrilling developments in the coming weeks.
A part of me yearns for this information to be accurate, as I dread the thought of Olympia and Matty’s friendship ending, given the ongoing issues at the Kingston residence. However, as a cautious investigator, I cannot blindly accept the facts without further examination and additional details.
To uncover the truth, it’s essential that you stay tuned to CBS every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET and watch along. If my hypothesis about the latest episode titles proves accurate, the upcoming “Game Face” will undoubtedly take Madeline, Shae, and everyone else on an exciting journey.
