In Monster Hunter Wilds, players won’t encounter the typical RPG mechanics of attacking monsters and gaining experience points (EXP) to level up. Instead, they can enhance their abilities by crafting equipment. However, there is a form of leveling-up within the game, but it applies specifically to the player’s feline companion, the Palico.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, your Palico companions will advance in rank following missions and gain new skills. Some of these skills will automatically improve as you progress through the game, while others require completing side quests for unlocking or upgrades. However, it’s important to note that players don’t have direct control over when their Palicos use these abilities; instead, the AI is clever enough to decide when it’s appropriate to deploy them. Among all the skills available in the game, these ones are particularly beneficial.
7. Plunderang
Steal Items From Enemies
In the game Monster Hunter Wilds, there’s an exciting new feature called Plunderang, which enables your Palicos to snatch items from monsters. This offers an alternative method for gathering crafting materials, apart from relying on the Wound system. Interestingly, this move is reminiscent of Yuffie, the thief character in Final Fantasy 7, who employed various throwing weapons such as boomerangs and giant shurikens. While Plunderang won’t directly aid in defeating monsters, additional resources are always beneficial. The accuracy of this ability is yet to be determined, but hopefully, your Palico will learn some aiming skills during their downtime at camp.
6. Place Paracorn
Set A Makeshift Shock Trap

In Monster Hunter Wilds, Paracapture is a unique skill for players who prefer capturing monsters instead of fighting them to the death. Capturing a monster yields more materials and concludes missions faster. To capture an enemy, players must first weaken it, then lay either a Pitfall Trap or Shock Trap, and finally, toss in one or two Tranquilizer Bombs.
In this power, the Paracorn serves as an improvised Stun Trap, enabling Palicos to aid their allies during the capture process. It’s a beneficial skill, similar to Flashfly Cage, which immobilizes monsters using a brilliant burst of light.
5. Sporenent: Song O’ Power
Raise Attack Power Temporarily

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the melody “Song o’ Power” is a tune that Palicos can perform to momentarily increase the player’s attack power. There are other methods to temporarily enhance strength as well, such as Hunters wielding Hunting Horns and items like Demondrug. The “Song o’ Power” provides a passive way for players to receive occasional boosts at random when Palicos decide to do so. Another Palico ability, “Song o’ Purrtection,” temporarily raises the player’s defensive stats as well.
4. Let-‘Er-RRRip
Your Palico Carts Around A Ballista

In Monster Hunter World, the ability called “Let-‘Er-RRRip” can be a bit puzzling initially. Your Palico allies will deploy a mobile ballista, engaging monsters and firing arrows until they run out. When you play with two Palicos, it’s entertaining to observe them using these battle karts in tandem. The exact amount of damage they inflict is unclear, but it doesn’t really matter. They effectively distract enemies, providing time for players to prepare powerful melee or ranged attacks with their weapons.
3. Vigorwasp Delivery
A Splash Of Healing

In the thrilling world of Monster Hunter Wilds, healing plays a pivotal role in my survival journey, and my trusty Palico companions have some nifty tricks up their sleeves to aid me in this aspect. You’ll often encounter tiny, mosquito-like creatures buzzing around called Vigorwasps, oozing with a healing green goo. I can manually squeeze them for an extra dose of health, or I can leave it to my Palico to utilize the Vigorwasp Delivery skill when needed.
Another healing ability similar to this is the Purewasp Delivery, which uses Purewasps naturally and cures any status effects that may hinder me. Moreover, my Palico has the power to summon a horde of Vigorwasps to flood the area via the Attract Vigorwasps ability, ensuring a steady flow of healing when I’m in a tight spot!
2. Rath-From-Above
Your Palico Pilots An Airship To Fire From Above

Rath-from-Above shares similarities with Let-‘Er-RRRip, but with an adorable twist: Palicos get to operate mini-airships and bombard enemies from above with a shower of missiles. This feature undeniably adds a sweet touch to the series that fans might appreciate having a statue of to display near their workstation as a reminder of this unique ability.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed that the Rare Fire option packs a stronger punch and seems weightier compared to the Ballista ability. However, it does require some patience as it takes time to recharge. Luckily, my Palico partner is good at timing and using their abilities strategically, so we can make the most of this delay.
1. Vigorwasp Revival
Revive Once Per Mission

Vigorwasp Revival stands out as an exceptional healing skill compared to Vigorwasp Delivery and Purewasp Delivery. This unique ability allows Palicos to revive their partner during a mission, with one revival per mission available. After using it, there’s a recharge period. In Monster Hunter Wilds, you usually have three chances to revive before the game ends, but these are shared among partners if you play with others. If you choose to play alone, you get all three revivals plus the extra one from Vigorwasp Revival. However, playing solo without any Support Hunters is a tough challenge that hardcore fans might enjoy.
