But as it happened, during a viral moment on the Netflix series “With Love, Meghan“, the host corrected her guest, Mindy Kaling, about the latter’s confusion over Meghan’s new name. Seizing the opportunity, Jack in the Box swiftly produced a promotional video capitalizing on this name drop and Meghan’s correction of Kaling regarding her new title, the Sussexes.
The chain, which originated in the ’50s, ran with the scene from the 2025 Netflix TV and movie schedule series quickly after the premiere. A cut version of the surprising exchange was posted to their Instagram with a simple caption of, “Eat like royalty with my 2 tacos. With love, Jack Box.”
The video clip is from an episode featuring the actress from “The Office,” who’s also known as Meghan Markle, and Sussex. In this episode, they are organizing a kid-friendly party. During their preparations, the subject of fast food arises. In the chain’s video, Jack Box, the mascot, appears alongside Kaling, expressing surprise that the former royal enjoys fast food. The entire incident seems unusual, starting from the first interaction and moving on to Jack Box accidentally sharing someone else’s TikTok post as his own. This popular video follows the controversy surrounding the delayed airing of With Love, Meghan after the wildfires in Los Angeles in January. Recently, the show has faced one obstacle after another, and I must admit I was taken aback that the conversation wasn’t cut from the broadcast. However, it provided an opportunity for the former Suits star to casually remind everyone of her new status as a Sussex. The promotion for Jack in the Box (JITB) was an unanticipated consequence of the whole situation.
Even now, it all feels a bit awkward and strange to me. I believe there were numerous other strategies she could’ve employed to emphasize the name change more effectively. This isn’t the first time the ex-royals have encountered issues with their Netflix productions in relation to their deal. Their documentary titled “Harry & Meghan” also faced criticism.
As a die-hard film enthusiast, I find myself pondering this: Wouldn’t it be delightful if Meghan Markle returned to her role on Suits LA, thereby potentially inviting a charming Prince Harry tale onto the set?
As far as I’m concerned, both streaming projects have faced criticism, but it’s not unusual in Hollywood. The unexpected part is when Jack in the Box takes advantage of an awkward moment involving friends talking about fast food. If the show gets renewed for another season, I hope it can regain its footing and reach the same level as some of the classics, because just thinking about the food made me feel hungry.
Regarding Jack in the Box, I found their Instagram post humorous but unnecessary. The debate about Meghan Markle’s potential name change with Mindy Kaling had already generated a lot of buzz; there was no need for the restaurant chain to capitalize on it.
