’30 Days of Night’

30 Days of Night, a comic book miniseries adaptation, takes place in the remote Alaskan town of Barrow during their annual month-long polar night when the sun doesn’t rise. As eerie events start to unfold as the sun sets, Sheriff Eben Oleson (Josh Hartnett) soon realizes that a horrifying group of bloodthirsty vampires have singled out his town. With many residents becoming victims of these creatures, those who remain go into hiding. Since they’re so isolated from civilization, it falls on the surviving townsfolk to halt this threat from spreading elsewhere. Right now, you can stream 30 Days of Night on Shudder.
‘Starve Acre’

Titled “Starve Acre,” this film was both penned and helmed by Daniel Kokotajlo, inspired by the 2019 novel of the same name by Andrew Michael Hurley. The story revolves around a married couple, Richard (portrayed by Matt Smith) and Juliette (played by Morfydd Clark), who live a peaceful family life in 1970s countryside England. However, their tranquil existence is shattered when their son starts displaying peculiar behavior.
In his role as an archaeologist, Richard delves into the mysterious happenings surrounding his son’s activities and delves into local legends about a legendary oak tree on their Starve Acre property, believed to possess extraordinary powers. As he uncovers more details, an unexpected revelation emerges, drawing ominous influences into their household. Starve Acre premieres on March 7.
‘Evil Dead’ (1981) & ‘Evil Dead’ (2013)

The 1981 original film “Evil Dead,” directed by Sam Raimi, and its 2013 remake, helmed by Fede Alvarez, both offer chilling retellings of the same narrative. These supernatural horror flicks follow a group of five companions who venture to a secluded cabin nestled in the woods. Once there, they stumble upon an ominous book known as the “Book of the Dead.” Unaware of its dangers, they accidentally summon a horrifying and malevolent spirit that takes control of one of them.
Consequentially, chaos erupts as they strive to rescue their friend from the clutches of evil and safely return home. The original features Bruce Campbell, renowned for his character Ash Williams in the movie, whereas the remake showcases performances by Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, and Elizabeth Blackmore. Beginning March 15, you can stream both Evil Dead and Evil Dead (2013).
‘The Clovehitch Killer’

Released in 2018 and directed by Duncan Skiles in his directorial debut, The Clovehitch Killer follows a teenage boy named Tyler (Charlie Plummer) who believes his father, Don (Dylan McDermott), might be the same serial killer who rocked their small town more than a decade ago. Known as the Clovehitch killer, the assailant brutally tortured and killed 10 women without ever being discovered.
In his role as a respected community figure, Tyler struggles to believe that his father could commit such horrific acts. Yet, the further he delves into his doubts, the more he questions the validity of his concerns. Adding to his anxiety, he fears that the actions of the Clovehitch Killer might not have ceased.

‘Bloody Axe Wound’

In a different yet clear wording, the horror-comedy movie titled “Bloody Axe Wound” centers around a teenage girl named Abbie Bladecut (Sari Arambulo). Faced with a dilemma, she struggles between upholding her family’s gruesome profession and embracing her feelings for her first crush. Her father, Roger Bladecut (Billy Burke), has built a life around recording real-life murders on video and selling them to dark enthusiasts. It’s now Abbie’s turn to continue the notorious and sinister family business.
Initially, she’s supposed to accept her family’s brutal line of work, but as she delves deeper, she questions whether it’s now time for a shift. The movie boasts acting by Molly Brown, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Sari Arambulo. Bloody Axe Wound can be streamed from March 21 onwards.
‘The Rule of Jenny Pen’

A film produced by Shudder, titled “The Rule of Jenny Pen“, narrates the story of Judge Stefan Mortensen (played by Geoffrey Rush), who becomes partially paralyzed following a stroke. Now dependent on a wheelchair, he resides in a retirement home, a living arrangement that he finds frustrating. Frequent disagreements ensue between him and another resident, Dave Crealy (portrayed by John Lithgow).
In a seemingly benign manner, Dave secretly torments others through a cruel game he’s devised, employing his dementia doll as an instrument of harshness. When Stefan’s entreaties to the staff fall on deaf ears, he resolves to act independently and put an end to Dave’s tyranny forever. The Jenny Pen Rule will be airing on March 28th.
