Daredevil Deserves a Seat at the Avengers Table

Be aware that spoilers are coming up for the initial two episodes of the latest series, “Daredevil: Born Again.” You can catch it now on Disney+ with a subscription or by opting for the Disney+/Hulu bundle.

It’s not just me who might feel this way: The new Marvel movies leave me in a peculiar spot. Earlier, each film seemed like a must-watch blockbuster that would tie into the next one. But since Avengers: Endgame, it seems like there have been a mix of hit and miss ideas scattered throughout. Now, I’m not sure if the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) can be relied upon to deliver consistently good content anymore. So when the premiere of Daredevil: Born Again popped up on the 2025 TV schedule, my anticipation was guarded. Yet surprisingly, I found myself getting genuinely excited about Daredevil’s MCU television debut.

Truth be told, I’m thrilled to have Matt Murdock in this world, and I strongly believe he’s more than ready for a well-deserved step up. Let’s dive in.

Now That Daredevil Finally Has An MCU Show, It Feels So Right

As a devoted fan, I voiced my apprehensions that the Daredevil portrayed in the MCU might not resonate in the same way, given its distinctive grit and rebellious spirit. However, based on the assurances of the executive producers to TopMob, and the promising glimpses we’ve gotten so far of the series, it’s evident that Marvel Studios holds the character in as high regard as we do. They are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that Daredevil: Born Again, six years after the last Netflix episode, will be a comeback worth the wait.

As someone who wasn’t necessarily a diehard Daredevil fan but appreciated the series, it was unique to witness Charlie Cox reprise his role under the mask for the opening episodes – despite the unfortunate demise of one of my preferred characters within the initial minutes. The show seems like an essential television event that I find myself compelled (and eager) to watch, as it evokes a sense of returning to a character I once enjoyed watching and presents a promising setup between Daredevil and the newly-elected New York mayor, Wilson Fisk.

Furthermore, it seems to me that the MCU could benefit from introducing a grittier, more realistic hero following movies like “Deadpool vs. Wolverine” and “Agatha All Along“. Of course, I enjoy the humor in Marvel productions, but “Daredevil: Born Again” offers a refreshing shift from the recent output of the studio.

Look, I Know He’s A ‘Street Hero’, But I Think He Should Be A Candidate For The New Avengers

Following the initial episodes of “Daredevil: Born Again“, I found myself secretly yearning for him to be recognized as a top-tier superhero instead of just a secondary TV character. Despite this, I understand why he remains a television hero. It’s because the comic book version of Daredevil is perceived as a “street-level” hero who operates on a smaller scale compared to characters such as Thor, who can tackle cosmic threats like preventing an alien race from devastating Earth.

Previously, I found “Daredevil” to be flawless within the TV universe, given that his day job was a lawyer – an element that fit perfectly for a crime-centric show. Yet, with the current roster of heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe gearing up for their grand appearance in the upcoming Avengers films, I genuinely believe they could benefit from having a character like Daredevil on board.

When comparing Matt Murdock with other characters, it seems there aren’t enough heroes fans have had extensive screen time with. Although figures like Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Thor, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, and the latest Captain America come to mind, the “Born Again” series has rekindled my belief that Daredevil could bring a unique dynamic to the Avengers roster, potentially enhancing the team’s synergy.

When Matt Murdock Showed Up In Spider-Man: No Way Home, It Got A Huge Reaction

How could Daredevil make an appearance in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film? While it would be exciting to imagine Daredevil and Wilson Fisk sharing the screen in Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man movie, it seems that this won’t happen as the plan for the “Born Again” duo to join Holland in his 2026 film has been reportedly scrapped. Instead, let’s discuss another possibility. I want to explore the impact when Matt Murdock briefly appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

I recall attending the premiere of No Way Home, and the excitement among fans when Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock made a brief appearance. It left me wanting to see more of him in the film, and judging by the collective gasps and cheers in my theater, it seemed that I wasn’t alone. After he stole the scene so effectively, I believe he deserves a larger role in future movies, given his years of dedication to the character. He certainly has earned it through his hard work!

Plus, Wilson Fisk Being A Main Villain In A Future MCU Movie Would Be Amazing

Let me conclude by focusing on the outstanding portrayal of Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, a character who truly shines in Daredevil: Born Again. I strongly believe that his performance is so powerful that it could be incredible if he were to advance within the MCU, possibly taking on the role of one of the franchise’s main antagonists. At present, Fisk may only pose a threat to New York City, but in Marvel Comics, he has been depicted as an adversary not just for Daredevil, but also for Spider-Man. Furthermore, he has ties with organizations such as The Hand and HYDRA, among others.

Although he may not be physically strong, his ability to assemble a team of future supervillains could pose a greater risk if he excessively pushes his plan. A team of villains, serving as an alternative to the usual single powerful antagonist like Thanos, could offer an exciting twist. In such a scenario, Daredevil could prove invaluable to the Avengers, providing strategic insights due to his long-standing acquaintance with this individual.

I’m crossing my fingers that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has planned for this in “Daredevil: Born Again” and is subtly laying the groundwork. However, we’ll need to wait and watch how the series progresses every Tuesday to find out.
