Daredevil: Born Again’s Scores Matched, But Is It Really Better Than The Original?

A whole decade has passed since the initial Netflix series featuring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, debuted. Now, he’s back in action with “Daredevil: Born Again,” which made its television premiere in 2025. With great expectations for this revival, the show had to deliver something impressive. Generally speaking, reviews for “Born Again” have been positive, and interestingly enough, both critics and viewers seem to be in agreement according to Rotten Tomatoes ratings. However, I must admit that I’m not as thrilled about how it stacks up against the original series’ viewership figures.

How Critics And Audiences Have Responded To Daredevil: Born Again

Remarkably, the Rotten Tomatoes ratings for “Daredevil: Born Again” are strikingly alike. As of March 8th, the Tomato-o-meter (critics’ score) stands at 85%, while the Popcornmeter (audience’s score) mirrors this, also at 85%. Interestingly, out of 112 critics who rated the latest installment of “Daredevil”, and over a thousand fans who shared their opinions, it seems they share surprisingly similar views.

In summary, an 85% rating is quite impressive. This suggests that the program has been generally well-received, with most viewers finding it enjoyable. Yet, there are some who hold less favorable opinions. To clarify, a “fresh” review indicates positive feedback, while a “rotten” one implies negative reactions from the audience.

  • FRESH: “Fans of the original Daredevil series should enjoy Daredevil: Born Again, because it continues the original series’ story and its dark tone, with a story that’s feels like it’s going to build to an exciting climax.” -Joel Keller from Decider
  • ROTTEN: “Regrettably, despite Cox’s excellent returning performance, Daredevil: Born Again is a massive step down from the previous version and not enough of a good show to stand on its own.” -Andres Cabrera from Geeks of Color

In the meantime, similar to what the critics have shared, audience reviews generally lean towards the favorable side, with a few exceptions. Here are two contrasting responses from fans along with their ratings:

1. “Absolutely loved it! 5 stars!” – Fan A
2. “Worst movie I’ve ever seen. 1 star.” – Fan B

  • 5 Star Review: “The first two episodes are a great start to what I hope to be a great season. It has a lot, if not all of the elements that made the original Netflix version a hit for Marvel TV.” -Steve T
  • 1.5 Star Review: “I feel like the rug has been pulled right out from under me when you kill a beloved Character in the first 5mins. Feels like a slap in the face to the original show.” -Tierra T

Currently, there seems to be a widespread trend among viewers to draw parallels between the latest MCU series and its earlier counterpart. The Netflix show, which debuted in 2015, has set an extremely high standard for “Born Again,” and is often recognized as one of Marvel’s finest shows. I believe this could be a factor contributing to the lower Rotten Tomatoes ratings that the new series has received compared to its original version.

How Daredevil: Born Again’s Rotten Tomatoes Scores Compare To The OG Series

Remarkably, “Born Again” holds its ground alongside its Marvel Cinematic Universe contemporaries. The scores for “Agatha All Along”, much like this production, were comparable, earning 84% from critics and 83% from the audience. Similarly, “Loki” garnered 87% from critics and 86% from audiences. These figures are nothing to worry about. However, when contrasted with its precursor, I can’t help but feel a tinge of melancholy.

Based on Rotten Tomatoes, the initial Daredevil series earned a 92% score on the Tomatometer and a 89% rating on the Popcornmeter. While an 85% isn’t too different from 92% or 89%, if we consider letter grades, the original series would receive an A- or B+ grade, whereas the new show rates as a strong B.

Disney Plus and Hulu Bundle Offer: The sensational deal from last year is back for 2025, arriving nearly 9 months ahead of schedule! This highly popular bundle deal we saw during Black Friday returns in March, offering an ad-supported Disney Plus and Hulu plan at the incredibly low price of $2.99 a month. Normally priced at $10.99 a month, this represents a substantial savings of 72%. Although new and returning eligible customers won’t be able to keep the discounted rate for as long, you’ll still get the sub-$3 bundle for the first four months of your subscription (during Black Friday, the reduced Disney Plus price lasted an entire year).

Expressing my thoughts in a different manner: I’m really into “Born Again,” but I think it deserves a higher rating. Still, I get why it’s not there. The original series is exceptional, and when you combine that with the daring decision this new project took and the Marvel overload that has been prevalent for some time now, it’s understandable that the score is lower.

Nevertheless, there’s a chance it might resurface, given that “Daredevil: Born Again” is releasing fresh episodes each Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET, exclusively on Disney+.
