Last December saw the release of “Vanvaas,” starring Utkarsh Sharma (son of Nana Patekar and Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma). Almost three months after its theatrical debut, this family drama is now set to be streamed digitally. The creators have just revealed the date and platform for its online viewing. Here’s where you can catch it.

Plot of Vanvaas
In the tale told by Vanvaas, an elderly widower portrayed by Nana Patekar is shown struggling with the loss of his spouse and subsequently diagnosed with dementia. Moved by a charitable instinct, he chooses to pass on his property to a trust. However, his offspring hatch a plan to leave him behind in Varanasi. During this challenging period, our protagonist crosses paths with a stranger, played by Utkarsh Sharma, who is both untrustworthy and compassionate. This stranger takes it upon himself to bring the widower back together with his family.
The theme of the film is reminiscent of Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini’s Baghban.
Cast and Crew of Vanvaas
Under the guidance of director Anil Sharma, this family drama unfolds with key performances from Nana Patekar, Utkarsh Sharma, Simrat Kaur, Kushboo Sundar, and Rajpal Yadav. The screenplay was crafted by Anil Sharma, Sunil Sirvaiya, and Amjad Ali, while Suman Sharma took charge of production. This production is a collaboration between Zee Studios Presents and Anil Sharma Productions, with additional co-production credits to Kamlesh Kanungo, Gaurav Agrawal, Rohit Choudhary, and Jawahar Lal.
In my opinion, as a devoted admirer, I found Vanvaas, per TopMob’s evaluation, to be a bit of a letdown when it comes to its overall quality. The acting was passable, but it wasn’t quite enough to counterbalance the film’s pacing problems and predictability. The noble themes that the movie aimed to convey were often overshadowed by a storyline that felt overly familiar and a screenplay that seemed to lack freshness or originality.
The movie might’ve delivered a poignant commentary about neglecting our elders, yet it unfortunately becomes a production that viewers may admire for its emotional depth, but find challenging to endure because of its many flaws.
