Fighting Game Collections We Need After Capcom’s Latest Releases

I’m thrilled to say that I’ve been marveling at Capcom’s commendable work in preserving my beloved fighting game classics! Their latest Fighting Game Collection series has truly been a game-changer. Nowadays, it’s effortless to dive back into the Darkstalkers and Marvel vs Capcom universes, not forgetting the timeless Street Fighter games. It’s as if these legendary titles have been reborn for modern gamers like me!

It’s quite intriguing to ponder why larger companies haven’t hopped on the bandwagon of assembling fighting game collections, given the current discussion. So far, only SNK has taken this route by resurfacing their classic King of Fighters and Fatal Fury titles via Hamster’s arcade adaptations. Even lesser-known publishers have revamped forgotten fighters like The Rumble Fish for a new audience.

Since it appears that other firms haven’t considered this yet, let me share some anticipated fighting game compilations that we’re eager to witness in the future.

Tekken

It’s quite surprising, isn’t it, that Bandai Namco hasn’t put together a Tekken series compilation yet? While games like Tekken 7 and Tekken 5 offer glimpses into the past, fans are now eagerly awaiting Tekken 8. A collection encompassing the first six games would be an ideal treat for those who fondly remember the earlier titles.

Fans have been looking for a legitimate method to enjoy these older games for some time now. Earlier, only Tekken 5 provided fans with a means to play those earlier versions. Since then, it’s been all about the latest releases. However, considering that Bandai Namco is concentrating on the present, revisiting successful ideas from the past might not be such a bad move.

Mortal Kombat

It’s hard to believe that in this current era, we haven’t seen a compilation of Mortal Kombat fighting games like we should have. Back then, during the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 days, there was an older collection, but it only included the first three games.

As a dedicated gamer who’s played through twelve thrilling installments of this epic series, I can’t help but reminisce about the classic games that paved the way for this franchise’s success. The blend of 2D and 3D entries has left an indelible mark on us fans, and while MK 1 did a commendable job honoring the 3D era, I believe a comprehensive collection could take it to the next level.

We, the fans, are open to the idea of a remastered edition of Mortal Kombat 9 being released again. If eliminating Freddy Krueger from the game is what it takes to boost its current market performance, then that’s something we could certainly live with.

SoulCalibur

If we don’t manage to obtain the latest weapon-based fighter game, a compilation of these gem-like games would be an excellent alternative instead. The original SoulCalibur remains enjoyable with its smooth gameplay and appealing visuals, but many enthusiasts might feel disappointed without the inclusion of SoulCalibur 2. Admittedly, that version was quite challenging due to its guest characters and Spawn, yet fans yearn for a chance to revisit it.

Reflecting on the timeless appeal of the SoulCalibur games, it’s evident that a compilation showcases their enduring beauty and ability to hold up over time. Moreover, this series stands out as an inviting entry point for novice fighting game enthusiasts due to its engaging button-mashing mechanics. Therefore, it seems worthwhile for Bandai Namco to reconsider a re-release of these classic titles.

Bloody Roar

Among the list, Bloody Roar stands out as the least known title and served as an introduction to furry-themed fighting games for numerous enthusiasts. With just four installments and a distinctive gameplay concept, we firmly believe that this combat series deserves a compilation more than many others. Given the recent surge in popularity of fighting games, it’s almost unjust how this franchise has been on hiatus for such an extended period.

The idea behind this game franchise is straightforward: you assume various animal shapes and engage in combat against each other. Back then, witnessing characters metamorphose into entirely new forms was incredibly captivating, particularly during the PlayStation 1 era. It’s a pity that the series never progressed beyond the PlayStation 2 generation, as it could have ignited even more enthusiasm among fans if games for the PS3 and Xbox 360 had been released.
