Acclaimed writer-director Vishal Bhardwaj is all set to excite fans with his forthcoming project titled “Arjun Ustara”. Starring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, this period drama film is one of the most anticipated upcoming ventures that has everyone talking. In fact, the director behind “Haider” recently shared updates from the set and expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with both actors.
In a conversation with Mid-day, Vishal Bhardwaj recently discussed his upcoming period drama that’s currently in production. Originally, this film was intended to star the late Irrfan Khan, but Shahid Kapoor has taken over the role instead. He expressed joy about working again with Shahid Kapoor for the fourth time following their collaborations on Kaminey, Haider, and Rangoon.
Speaking about our partnership, he expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “We’re both eager to join forces again. The filming has been exceptional.” Furthermore, he admired Triptii Dimri during their initial collaboration and added, “Triptii is simply delightful and an exceptional actress. I can’t believe I haven’t worked with Nana Patekar before, and now I find myself wondering, ‘Why didn’t I work with him sooner?’
Beyond being a great filmmaker, Bhardwaj is equally exceptional as a music composer. During our chat, he expressed a growing appreciation for the impact that music has on a film today. He supported his viewpoint by recalling instances where a movie’s success was largely due to a popular soundtrack.
He underlined a point where, no matter how successful the songs might be, a poor movie wouldn’t thrive even with good music. But, he pointed out, there are instances nowadays when a film becomes successful because of hit songs – for example, Vicky Kaushal’s Tauba Tauba whose dance steps became popular, leading him to believe that the film also found success. “I’m not sure if that’s always the case,” he added with a final remark.
In January of this year, Shahid Kapoor began filming for a movie titled Arjun Ustara. He even shared a picture from the first shot on his social media accounts. The production of this film, directed by Sajid Nadiawala, also stars Randeep Hooda and Nana Patekar in significant roles. It’s scheduled to hit theaters on December 5, 2025.
