- The Battle of Polytopia has introduced new one-try-and-done weekly challenges
- Compete to achieve the highest score on the leaderboard
- But be warned, there’s no do-overs once you’ve played
In the realm of mobile 4X strategy games, The Battle of Polytopia, reminiscent of Civilization, is often considered a significant contributor to its genre. Its unique yet strategic approach has earned it a large following, and now, it’s preparing to unveil a fresh method for players to demonstrate their skills through weekly challenges!
These weekly challenges are based on a straightforward premise: every player, regardless of location, gets a single opportunity to complete the challenge using the same seed (tribe, map, enemies, resources). Essentially, this is the ultimate test of one’s skill, as you only get one chance per day. If you slip up, there’s no room for do-overs; you either need to face the consequences and recover or accept defeat.
This tactic isn’t new, as Hitman by IO Interactive previously introduced Elusive Targets – non-playable characters who needed to be eliminated in a single attempt and would essentially vanish (for all practical purposes) if you missed or the limited time window passed. I believe that Polytopia will significantly profit from incorporating this mechanic into its gameplay.
Build a Polytopia to stand the test of time
For some time now, Polytopia’s game inspired by spiritual elements similar to Civilization has offered monthly challenges. However, the recent shift to weekly challenges with a single-attempt, high-stakes format is particularly intriguing for dedicated gamers who enjoy a challenge.
The primary concern I have is that there seem to be no clear victory criteria at the moment. Instead, it appears that the game is won by accumulating the most points. Ideally, future iterations of this game could introduce unique and unconventional methods for determining a winner, such as specific scenarios or challenges.
