Monster Hunter Wilds might initially seem challenging, despite the numerous enhancements. With fourteen distinct weapons to select from, determining the most suitable one can prove tricky. Although there’s a training zone available, deciding on the right path may still be perplexing. Some weapons excel in offensive roles, while others perform better in support functions.
If you’re fresh to Monster Hunter Worlds and aiming to play with a 4-player team, consider trying out these helpful roles instead. Here are five weapons that can significantly aid your group in various scenarios; let’s dive into how each one functions:
In this version, I tried to use more conversational language and made it easier for beginners to understand the context.
5. Hammer
Can’t Touch This
In most Role-Playing Games (RPGs), including Monster Hunter Wilds, the Hammer is traditionally a heavy weapon, but it’s not drastically different here. Characters using it will move more slowly across the battlefield, but they’ll gain a significant power boost in return. Interestingly, despite their weight, hammers in this game are relatively small and compact, making them easier to handle, even with their slow pace.
In the game Monster Hunter Wilds, monsters can be effectively damaged using hammers, inflicting critical hits and creating opportunities for additional crafting materials. This makes hammers an excellent choice as a support weapon because players can focus on striking specific weak points on the monster, then retreat, allowing other party members to capitalize on those open wounds.
4. Heavy Bowgun
Blast Monsters Into Oblivion

In the game we’re discussing, there are two primary categories of Bowguns: Heavy and Light. While they share similarities, the main distinction lies in their impact and mobility. The Light Bowgun allows for greater agility between shots, making it ideal for players who prefer quick movement. On the other hand, the Heavy Bowgun may slow down players, but its ammunition packs a more powerful punch. In this article, we’ll be focusing on the Heavy Bowgun, which excels in a supportive role and showcases some of the game’s most destructive weapons in Monster Hunters Wilds.
1. These weapons not only inflict significant harm on monsters but their efficient attacks create Wounds rapidly. The speed at which players can target monsters influences how quickly this happens, potentially outpacing a Hammer. For those familiar with shooter games, mastering Heavy Bowguns should pose minimal challenge due to their user-friendly nature. Despite making the user move slower, these weapons are generally simple to handle, offering various ammo types and firing methods.
2. These weapons not only cause substantial damage to monsters but can quickly inflict Wounds thanks to their precise rounds. Depending on players’ aiming skills, this process may be swifter than using a Hammer. For gamers accustomed to shooter games, Heavy Bowguns will require minimal learning. They come with diverse ammo options and firing styles, but overall are easy to manage, despite slowing down the user slightly.
3. Heavy Bowguns inflict substantial damage on monsters while rapidly creating Wounds through concise attacks. Depending on players’ targeting abilities, this process may surpass a Hammer in speed. For those who have played shooter games before, these weapons are intuitive with minimal learning required. They offer different ammo types and firing modes but remain easy to handle, even though they slow down the user slightly.
4. These weapons inflict substantial damage on monsters while creating Wounds quickly due to their efficient attacks. Players’ skill at targeting monsters determines how swiftly this happens; it might be faster than a Hammer. For gamers familiar with shooter games, Heavy Bowguns are user-friendly, requiring little learning. 3. Insect Glaive
Mount Monsters With Ease

In the world of Monster Hunter Wilds, the Insect Glaive stands as one of the most challenging weapons to master yet offers an exhilarating spectacle on the battlefield. Its design is reminiscent of a dual-edged sword fused with a spear, moving at a relatively leisurely pace. Yet, it boasts an accessory that propels players skyward. Proficient users can remain airborne while striking targets, creating the illusion of a martial artist straight out of a Chinese action epic such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
As a gamer, I’ve found that mastering the airborne technique with my Insect Glaive makes it a breeze to climb monsters, leaving them momentarily stunned and vulnerable, exposing their wounds. The Insect Glaive, as its name implies, is accompanied by insect companions known as Kinsects. These critters come in various forms, some inflicting poison on the monsters or healing me, making my Insect Glaive a versatile weapon, offering both offensive and defensive advantages based on the attached Kinsect I choose.
2. Bow
Attack With Precision From Afar

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the Bow is an ideal weapon for beginners due to its user-friendly nature. It provides a safe distance from monsters, yet it’s important to note that it doesn’t grant the ability to shoot monsters from far distances like a sniper; there’s still a limit to its range. However, the Bow allows for quick arrow shots while maintaining mobility, making it easier to dodge attacks compared to the two types of Bowguns. Furthermore, Bows have an additional advantage – they can offer support in combat.
In the game Monster Hunter Wilds, the Wound system can be utilized effectively with any weapon, however, it’s most conveniently executed using a Bow. To do this, players merely need to press and hold R1, mark the Wound, and then a seeker arrow will penetrate the monster’s body and detonate, causing critical damage and procuring valuable materials. While other weapons like Hammers are better at inflicting wounds, aiming them can be challenging, making Bow users particularly advantageous in this regard.
1. Hunting Horn
A True Support Vessel

In most role-playing games (RPGs), supporting characters often function as healers, such as White Mages or Bards. These roles are well established and while other weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds can offer support in various ways, only one truly embodies the supportive role in every sense. The Hunting Horn stands out because it boasts some of the highest attack stats within the game across its multiple variations. Despite being cumbersome due to their weight, they deliver impactful blows.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, Hunting Horns aren’t just for hunting monsters; they can also generate melodies that enhance your party’s stats. Each Hunting Horn has unique abilities, and skills don’t carry over between them. For instance, the Kut-Ku’s Song 1 creates a healing area, while the Bone Horn 1 boosts defense and elemental resistance. Whenever you see another player using a Hunting Horn in your party, they bring joy. Why not join the fun and give this oversized weapon a spin?
