As spring is approaching, Blumhouse and Universal Pictures invite you to join in the terrifying daylight experience of “The Woman in the Yard” (releasing in theaters on March 28). Similar to any captivating horror story, this movie isn’t solely about the chills; it also delves deeper with themes such as death, grief, and how the emptiness caused by losing a loved one can manifest into something grotesque.
Director Jaume Collet-Serra (renowned for his work on films like “The Shallows”, “Jungle Cruise”, and “Carry-On”) expresses in the official production notes that anything can be frightening. He explains, “A slight motion from The Woman, a piece of music, a sudden edit – any of these elements can create tension.” This intrigued him as it presented an opportunity to reduce the intensity while still maintaining suspense. As he has worked on numerous horror films, returning to this genre at this stage in his career was invigorating because he could apply lessons learned from other genres. For “The Woman in the Yard”, Collet-Serra aimed to introduce more complex character elements, making it a departure from traditional jump scares.

Here’s what you need to know about the new Blumhouse horror film, The Woman in the Yard

What it The Woman in the Yard about?
The story titled “The Woman in the Yard” is penned by debut author Sam Stefanak. It revolves around Ramona, a mother of two – Taylor, aged 14, and Annie, aged 6 – who are struggling to cope with the aftermath of the car accident that tragically claimed the life of their father, David, and left her deeply affected.
In their attempt to cope with a heart-wrenching tragedy, a family residing on a remote farmhouse encounters an enigmatic woman clad entirely in black within their yard. Initially, Ramona supposes this peculiar figure to be lost or mentally unstable; however, as the woman steadily advances towards the house, it becomes evident that she is far from ordinary and her motives are anything but tranquil. Essentially, he believes the film tackles our uncertainties, as it’s about grappling with one’s own doubts and facing inner struggles – akin to battling personal demons.
