Pullman Joins Field in Octopus Adaptation

The movie adaptation of that octopus book has rounded out its cast.

Actors Lewis Pullman, Colm Meaney, and Joan Chen have teamed up with Sally Field for the Netflix adaptation of “Remarkably Bright Creatures”, the highly acclaimed novel by Shelby Van Pelt. The book has been a top seller on the New York Times list for an impressive 64 weeks!

In addition, Kathy Baker from “Picket Fences,” Beth Grant known for her roles in “Little Miss Sunshine” and “No Country For Old Men,” and Sofia Black D’Elia, the star of “Single Drunk Female,” are also on the roster.

The story unfolds around an unusual bond between Tova, an elderly widow who works as a janitor at an aquarium, and Marcellus, a massive Pacific octopus residing there. Despite their contrasting natures, Tova develops an unexpected friendship with the cranky sea creature. However, it turns out that Marcellus has a secret mission: to unravel a mystery that could mend Tova’s broken heart and lead her towards a revelation that will significantly alter her life.

In spring 2022, Ecco published the book that subsequently became a hit based on word-of-mouth recommendations. It climbed to the position of the best-selling book in 2023, according to certain book tracking sources. The book has sold more than 2 million copies and has been reprinted at least 30 times, earning the nickname “the octopus book” among many people.

The adaptations were created by Bryan Unkeless and Peter Craig, in collaboration with Night Owl, as well as David Levine from Anonymous Content.

The executive producers also encompass Alyssa Rodrigues from Night Owl, Tony Lipp from Anonymous Content, Erika Hampson, together with Newman and Van Pelt.

Recently, Pullman has made appearances in several notable projects. He starred in New Line’s adaptation of Stephen King’s “Salem’s Lot,” shared the screen with Josh Brolin in “Outer Range,” and worked alongside Tom Cruise in “Top Gun: Maverick.” Starting May 2, you can catch him as part of the cast in Marvel’s “Thunderbolts.” His representation includes CAA and Anonymous Content.

The Irish actor famously known for his roles in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” now graces the screens of European crime series titled “Safe Harbor.” Currently, he is represented by IAG, Liebman Entertainment, and Brecheen Feldman.

Chen has featured in the FX show titled “A Murder at the End of the World” and will also star in the upcoming remake of “The Wedding Banquet,” which premieres on April 18th. This talented actor is represented by Anonymous Content.

The award-winning baker, who has won Emmys, Golden Globes, and SAG Awards, is represented by both Paradigm and Berwick & Kovacik. On the other hand, D’Elia is managed by Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and Brookside Artist Management.
