Steve Buscemi Joins Sam Rockwell in Martin McDonagh’s ‘Wild Horse Nine’ (Exclusive)

Actor Steve Buscemi has signed on for the star-studded ensemble of “Wild Horse Nine,” a movie produced by Searchlight Pictures and helmed by Martin McDonagh. This is McDonagh’s first feature film project since his critically acclaimed work, “The Banshees of Inisherin.

Actors Sam Rockwell, who played a role in McDonagh’s film “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” and John Malkovich and Parker Posey have already prepared for their roles in a darkly comedic drama set to begin shooting later this month on Rapa Nui, more commonly known as Easter Island.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel thrilled about the news that a production – whether American or British – is filming on an isolated island, a whopping 3,700 km away from Chile’s coast. This isn’t just any island; it’s one of the most secluded inhabited places on our planet, a true gem lying untouched amidst the vastness of Earth. Interestingly enough, it remains relatively untouched by modern comforts, thanks to its management under the Rapa Nui National Park. Can’t wait to see how this unique setting adds an extra layer of intrigue to the story!

Buscemi is stepping into a role that was initially going to be played by Mark Ruffalo.

Graham Broadbent, a seasoned collaborator of McDonagh over the years, and Pete Czernin, another valued associate, are teaming up for production duties alongside Anita Overland (known for her work on Blitz). Blueprint Pictures and Film4 are the companies responsible for bringing this project to life.

Taylor Friedman, as Senior Vice President of Production at Searchlight, along with Pete Spencer, the Director of Development and Production, are in charge of this particular project.

Actor Buscemi, known for his long-standing and respected career, has appeared in iconic films like “Reservoir Dogs,” “Fargo,” “The Big Lebowski,” “Con Air,” and “Boardwalk Empire.” He’s also lent his voice to the “Hotel Transylvania” series and played the role of Starscream in “Transformers One.” In the upcoming Netflix series, he will share screen time with Jenna Ortega in “Wednesday.

Apart from being an actor, Buscemi is also a talented film director. His latest movie, “The Listener“, featuring Tessa Thompson, had its premiere at the 2022 Venice Film Festival. Additionally, he has directed episodes for shows like “30 Rock, Portlandia“, and the recent post-apocalyptic series “Miracle Workers“.

Buscemi is repped by UTA and The Gotham Group.
