The second season of “Am I Being Unreasonable” plunges you right in without a moment’s hesitation, keeping viewers hooked with its exhilarating plotline. Even when it seems like this unique and eccentric comedy has reached its creative limit, the series takes you by surprise once more with another clever twist. So far, we’ve identified at least three major plot shifts that completely reshape our understanding of the events unfolding in this darkly amusing and imaginative series created by the talented duo, Daisy May Cooper and Selin Hizli.
Following a three-year hiatus, the series resumes with me finding myself in the midst of another panic attack during Alex’s funeral – a man I was involved with romantically, brother to his husband. His untimely death, as you may recall, was attributed to a train accident involving his scarf. However, the show now posits that this wasn’t merely an accident, and instead suggests that I, the one embroiled in this mystery, could potentially be a murderer. These revelations are skillfully woven through flashbacks, but the damning video leaked at Alex’s funeral, exposing our affair, has certainly stirred quite the gossip mill around me.
In Season 2, the initial idea sets off a wave of anxiety as Nic fears that she’s inadvertently taught her son Ollie (Lenny Rush) to tread the same doubtful path she has walked. After being ousted from home due to a romantic entanglement gone awry – loving a brother who wasn’t the right choice – Nic finds herself living in a trailer with Jen (Selin Hizli), her reliable (yet potentially untrustworthy) confidante. Adding to the chaos, Nic experiences a series of hallucinations, pushing her into a state of intense panic. This season promises plenty of laughter and amusement as it unfolds.
She Really Is Being Unreasonable
It’s both intriguing and unsettling to witness Daisy May Cooper transform on screen through her character, Nic. This talented actress has crafted a character we can cheer for, one that resonates with us because who hasn’t had moments when they needed to adapt and rebuild their lives? Am I Being Unreasonable might seem overly dramatic at times, but it’s a tribute to Cooper’s cleverness and acting skills that even the extreme plot twists appear genuine.
In Season 2, as themes of guilt, suspicion, and friendship unfold, creating a captivating blend of comedy and suspense, Nic’s mental breakdown is quite remarkable. When Nic is ostracized at Ollie’s school gates, she understands that life might never return to normal. Under her watchful gaze, when she’s assigned the role of a witch in a humorous yet ominous school play, Nic reaches her breaking point. Simultaneously, she starts having hallucinations. However, as we delve deeper into her best friend Jen’s (Selin Hizli) character, it becomes plausible that someone might be pulling pranks on Nic.
This season, Jen stands out as intriguing. She has always had an aura of mystery around her, but this time, we see a more cunning side to her personality. Jen enjoys capturing Nic in moments of distress, and it seems she’s privy to many of his secrets. Watching their dynamic unfold is quite entertaining, and as the season progresses, even our allegiances towards these peculiar characters become uncertain.
We’re Ready for Season 3
This season is filled with many interconnected elements that can make it difficult to keep up, but don’t give up! The comedic portrayal of a mini-separation between Nic and Dan (Dustin Demri-Burns) sheds light on Nic’s infidelity, yet as episodes progress, we uncover more about the complex situations surrounding Nic/Alex/Dan and Alex’s widow (Amanda Wilkin). She is proving to be an intriguing counterpart for Nic, and surprisingly, a catalyst for events we didn’t anticipate.
Occasionally, Nic’s hallucinations are quite dramatic, but we can understand Cooper’s enthusiasm. Over time, things balance out, leading to a reassuring sense of normality. Keep an eye out for Ollie to leave you spellbound once more, as he grapples with his insecurities, offering Cooper a chance to delve into diverse emotional aspects within their special mother-son bond. Lenny Rush delivers another exceptional performance deserving of accolades in this role.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel a bit frustrated with some loose ends in the storyline, but fear not! Keep your eyes peeled for more developments. This captivating and zesty dark comedy left me yearning for a third season from the get-go.
