It’s quite likely that many of us spend some evenings perusing various streaming platforms to discover a film that can help us relax after a tiring day. For those who have Netflix, there’s an abundance of fresh 2025 movies and TV shows to choose from, but the current Top 10 list is dominated by films not produced by Netflix itself. And let me tell you, I’m thrilled that a delightful movie titled “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” is finally striking a chord with viewers.
What’s In The Netflix Top 10 And Why I’m Excited Dungeons & Dragons Made It
It appears that springtime seems to be an ideal period for new additions to Netflix’s Top 10 charts, particularly those not original films for the service, given that only one original movie, the romantic comedy “La Dolce Villa,” is currently ranked in the top tier at position seven. The remaining titles in the list are as follows:
* “The Old Guard” (2nd place)
* “Extraction” (3rd place)
* “The Umbrella Academy” (4th place, a TV series)
* “Midnight Gospel” (5th place, an animated series)
* “The Kissing Booth 2” (6th place)
So, while the original film “La Dolce Villa” holds the seventh spot, the rest of the popular titles consist mainly of non-original movies and TV shows.
It seems that an abundance of children have already embarked on their spring breaks. This implies a flood of minion-banana-themed animation for the Top 10, which, to be honest, might include more banana dialogue than I’d prefer. Nevertheless, as long as it keeps people entertained, I’m all for it. The lineup also includes superhero action with Venom: The Last Dance (a film not highly praised by critics), video game-inspired action in Uncharted and Super Mario Bros., and the intense thriller To Catch a Killer.
But it’s the tenth position that holds a special place for me, as it seems that everyone is now enjoying “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” exactly when they ought to have in early 2023.
The action-comedy blend with fantasy elements hit theaters in late March that year, and despite receiving positive reviews even from TopMob’s Dirk Libbey (as expressed in his review), it failed to attract large audiences as expected. In reality, the movie Honor Among Thieves concluded its cinematic journey with only approximately $207+ million globally, an amount that many believe denied fans a follow-up film they would have enjoyed.
If you haven’t seen it yet, the film D&D: HAT, which I find has a neat abbreviation, centers around a motley crew of characters under the leadership of Chris Pine’s thief, Edgin Darvis. This group is on a quest to discover and swipe a magical tablet capable of resurrecting his deceased wife. The movie delivers all the elements you’d expect from a comedic fantasy, featuring engaging fight sequences, spectacular action setups, and an intriguing backdrop that even those unfamiliar with Dungeons & Dragons can follow. What sets it apart is its constant humor throughout.
Additionally, not only do we have Chris Pine in the film, but it’s the goofy and out-of-depth version of him that I enjoy. In fact, he sings in this movie on more than one occasion, and his plan-making abilities are questioned. To top it off, there’s a character named Jarnathan!
Last year, Pine was queried concerning the prospect of a follow-up for his remarkable film that should never be forgotten. Surprisingly, he provided fans with some optimism. All we have left to do now is log into Netflix, watch the movie, rate it as requested, and then perhaps rewatch it (I rewatched it twice in 2023, having already seen it at the theater). With any luck, this could potentially lead to a sequel for one of the finest fantasy films produced in recent years!
