Be careful, there are spoilers coming up for the movie “F Marry Kill”, which is currently playing in theaters and can be rented or bought digitally. Proceed with caution!
Since “Pretty Little Liars” wrapped up, I’ve been searching for similar shows and luckily, Lucy Hale, the series star, is the lead in a thrilling series that had me humming “Secret.” As her character Eva ventures into online dating with a serial killer on the loose, I assumed one of her suitors would be from corporate life. But surprisingly, it turned out to be one of her own friends, portrayed by Virginia Gardner, who was in the 2018 film “Halloween”!
During a conversation with Lucy Hale, Virginia Gardner, and director Laura Murphy (who made it onto our list of the most captivating female filmmakers with releases this year), they discussed the intricate conclusion and decisive finale.
What Virginia Gardner And The Director Said About F Marry Kill’s Big Twist
Based on our conversation, I now consider “F Marry Kill” among the films that feature unexpected plot twists which I wasn’t anticipating earlier. Here’s their take:
1. “F Marry Kill” is a movie with some major plot twist surprises that I didn’t see coming.
2. The trio and I agreed that “F Marry Kill” had some unexpected twists in its storyline.
3. Upon discussing it, we discovered that “F Marry Kill” has some significant plot twists that caught us off guard.
4. In our chat, we found out that “F Marry Kill” is a movie with surprising plot twists that were not on my radar before.
“Virginia:” “In my opinion, when she’s extremely drunk at the start of the movie is when her façade starts to crumble and she feels unable to conceal her actions anymore. Yet, she tries to suppress everything with the excessive drinking at the start of the film. We shot numerous scenes where we would perform one take that leans towards being a bit eerie, another take for comedy, and a third take in a straightforward manner. This way, during editing, you have the flexibility to decide how much of Kelly’s true feelings you want to reveal.”
Laura explained that they aimed to ensure the storyline made sense so that upon rewatching it, knowing the ending, it wouldn’t seem random. For instance, once you know the ending, if you start watching back, you might realize that she is drunk and vomiting because she’s going through a hidden breakup and potentially killing people. Moreover, she is clinging to memories of her past relationship with her best friend, which also reflects her estrangement from her former husband, as seen by her wearing the wedding dress again.
In retrospect, I can now see the warning signs – as Lucy Hale pointed out – that were subtly hinted during the conversation. What we thought would be a story about one of the men turned out to be something entirely different. It wasn’t a man at all or someone we had assumed was part of the dating pool; instead, it was Eva’s friend who had been going through a heartbreaking situation after discovering her husband’s infidelity during a secret breakup.
The Lucy Hale Improv Joke That Made The Ending Even Funnier
During our discussion about the upcoming 2025 movie featuring its star-studded cast and director, I couldn’t help but mention the unique way that Eva executes Kelly’s demise at the end of the film… through a kitten heel. Just as Laura Hale and Lucy Murphy described it humorously:
Lucy: “Didn’t we spend quite some time figuring out how to make that kitten heel stab, didn’t we? Occasionally, I ponder if death could occur from a kitten heel. I found it ingenious and it reminded me of one of my favorite movie endings.
Laura: We were struggling to decide on her dialogue during the stabbing scene since we wanted to maintain a balance between humor and thrill, as it was quite absurd. The kitten heel itself was absurd. So, we had to make it clear that it was absurd through humor but also keep a tense expression while doing so.
Lucy: “What did I say ‘You looked like shit and your spray tan was streaky?’”
Laura: “The day Lucy came up with that line was brilliant. It’s a topic women often discuss about other women regarding their weddings, but would never express directly. Insulting someone with a sharp kitten heel is similar to telling them directly, ‘Your spray tan looked uneven on your wedding day.’ So, that line was the real knockout punch.”
Indeed, the charm of the kitten heel was effectively portrayed in that movie. It managed to surprise me with its unexpected plot twist and kept me engaged until the exciting final kill. Reminiscent of the F-Marry-Kill game popular in pop culture, this title now represents a witty blend of comedy and thriller, penned by Lucy Hale. I eagerly anticipate the upcoming horror movies that may match its excellence as the year unfolds.
