In the year 2000, Priyanka Chopra, Dia Mirza, and Lara Dutta were the leading contenders in the Miss India pageant. Looking back, Dia revealed that during those times, she and Lara faced financial hardships, frequently surviving on instant noodles. Unlike them, Priyanka had a solid backing from her parents who actively participated in her journey.
In a chat on Zoom, Dia Mirza reminisced about the hardships she and Lara Dutta encountered at the outset of their careers. She recollected times when they lived in a small flat, with meager funds in their bank accounts. Unlike Priyanka Chopra, who had robust backing from her family, they needed to carve out their own path.
In a gracious gesture, Lara, who’s already a model, warmly invited Dia into her humble abode. Moreover, the star of Nadaaniyan casually mentioned assisting Lara with packing for the Miss Universe pageant, an event that signified a significant milestone in their paths.
Dia Mirza voiced her appreciation for Priyanka Chopra’s inspiring journey, highlighting the fact that the actress from Citadel quickly rose to success and excelled in her career right from the start. Despite facing her own difficulties, which only grew more complex as time went on, Priyanka’s accomplishments were undeniable. Dia reminisced about being amazed by her talent and determination, even wondering how much farther she could have gone if she had just a fraction of Priyanka’s acting skills.
In my expertise on maintaining a balanced lifestyle, I’d like to share a personal anecdote about my early days with Lara Dutta. We found ourselves in situations where we had limited resources, so we resorted to simple meals like Wai Wai noodles when money was scarce. However, our determination and frugality allowed us to model and save up the funds needed for our endeavors. It’s worth noting that neither of us relied on financial assistance from our parents during this time.
She went on to say, “Even though Priyanka had strong backing from her family, all we had was what we managed to accumulate ourselves. In our case, despite facing times when money was tight and bills mounted up, we still found ourselves going to fancy events in elegant dresses, returning home to eat the instant noodles that were all we could afford.
Reflecting back on those tough yet amusing moments, Dia Mirza reminisced about times when she and Lara Dutta would chuckle at their circumstances. Despite being dressed in fancy borrowed attire for prestigious functions, they appeared every bit the part of ascending celebrities; however, their financial records painted a contrasting picture.
In her latest role, Dia can be found in the movie Nadaaniyan, portraying the mother of Ibrahim Ali Khan’s character, Arjun Mehta. This movie, which served as Ibrahim’s debut, also stars Khushi Kapoor as Pia Jai Singh. Directed by Shauna Gautam and produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, Nadaaniyan is a romantic drama delving into the complexities of love and relationships among young adults. The cast includes Mahima Chaudhary, Suniel Shetty, and Jugal Hansraj as well. This production made its debut on Netflix on March 7, 2025.
