Panchayat’s Durgesh Kumar reveals he still has to chase directors for work despite 12 years in industry; ‘I continue to…’

In the limelight following the widespread popularity of his memorable line “I see Binod” from Panchayat season 2, actor Durgesh Kumar has transformed into a recognizable figure, even inspiring numerous memes. This newfound fame paved the way for a larger role in season 3 and a supporting part in the critically acclaimed film Laapataa Ladies, which was even nominated for an Oscar. Remarkably, despite his long career spanning twelve years and the success of these projects, Durgesh openly acknowledges that he is still encountering difficulties in securing fresh prospects and continues to participate in auditions.

During an interview with The Times of India, actor Durgesh Kumar discussed the ongoing hurdles he encounters within the entertainment industry despite the acclaimed success of Panchayat. He expressed that, although his work is acknowledged by audiences, obtaining roles remains a challenging endeavor, even after 12 years in this field.

Over the past year and a half, the actor known for Highway and Panchayat hasn’t gotten calls for auditions from big-name studios, instead working primarily with smaller producers who recognize his abilities. Surprisingly, even after his outstanding performances in those projects, no leading role has been offered by prominent production houses.

In addition to his roles garnering praise from critics and earning accolades, the actor known as Maharaj mentioned that acknowledgement of his acting abilities has not been widespread.

In a rather unusual turn of events, the performer from Laapataa Ladies finds himself seldom acknowledged by critics, even though viewers have applauded his work extensively. Despite a career spanning more than two and a half decades in the field, he feels he has not been given the recognition he deserves. Yet, he continues to be thankful for the unwavering support of his fans.

After graduating from the National School of Drama (NSD), Durgesh made his mark with a standout performance in Imtiaz Ali’s Highway in 2014. Since then, he has featured in significant films such as Sultan, Sanju, Dhadak, and Bhakshak. Initially cast in a secondary role for Panchayat, he later joined the primary cast during its third season.

Currently, Jitendra Kumar has shared some news about the upcoming season 4 of Panchayat. In a chat with IANS, he revealed that they are actively working on the new season and is optimistic that it will be out before long.
