Patton Oswalt Told Us The Big Way He Differs From His Suits LA Self, And I Especially Like His Idea For How He Could Return To The Series

Warning: SPOILERS for the Suits LA episode “He Knew” are ahead!

As a fan of legal dramas set in Los Angeles, particularly those focusing on the entertainment industry, I’d be thrilled to share my thoughts on a recent episode of “Suits LA” that aired not long ago. Entitled “He Knew,” it was broadcasted on the 2025 TV schedule and is now available for streaming with a Peacock subscription. In this episode, “The Office” star Brian Baumgartner took center stage, but comedian Patton Oswalt also had some captivating moments.

However, as Oswalt mentioned in an interview with TopMob, there’s a notable distinction between his real-life persona and the character he portrayed on “Suits LA.” Yet, he shared an intriguing idea about how his “Suits LA” character could potentially reappear in the NBC series.

On the TV show “Suits LA”, Oswalt joined the scene after Erica Collins and Leah Power set up a meeting between them and Baumgartner. At first, they got along well, but things took a turn when Oswalt criticized Baumgartner’s acting skills, saying he lacked what it takes to win an Oscar in drama. However, it was later disclosed that Erica had encouraged Oswalt to provoke Baumgartner to gauge his resolve to achieve this goal. In actuality, Oswalt wouldn’t participate in such a scenario; when I asked him about it, he shared that he wouldn’t be comfortable confronting a cast member from “The Office”.

I find myself in a dilemma, as I can see the event promises to be enjoyable, yet it’s not typically my style. Truth be told, I’m quite peace-loving, so it felt a bit uncomfortable. Despite the enjoyment it offered, there was an underlying discomfort.

On the TV show “Suits LA”, Patton Oswalt playfully jabbed at Brian Baumgartner by claiming Toby was funnier than Kevin on “The Office” and shouting “That’s what she said!” as Baumgartner stormed off. However, if you expect such jabs from Oswalt in real life, you’ll be disappointed. In our subsequent chat, he made it clear that such behavior isn’t something he typically engages in.

I don’t possess the confidence to do so, but I wouldn’t deliberately act rudely towards someone in a calculated manner. That’s simply not something I’m good at.

In the end, this strategy proved successful as Erica Rollins disclosed her genuine motives to Brian Baumgartner, pledged her backing for him, and consented to aid him in landing acting jobs with a dramatic flair. However, let’s discuss Patton Oswalt’s future on Suits LA. When I inquired about situations he foresaw that might necessitate his reaching out to Black & Associates for assistance, he shared:

In simpler terms, the character in the show might be overly ambitious, desiring to step out of his comfort zone which could potentially lead to problems. He seems to be the type who would leverage his skills to get himself into situations he desires, only to find himself needing those same skills to extricate himself from them later on. This behavior appears to be a common trait for him.

It seems quite similar to how Brian Baumgartner joined Suits LA; perhaps Patton Oswalt is considering a shift away from entertainment and finding himself in need of legal assistance, which the firm might provide. Regardless of the reason, if he does return to Suits LA, it would be great if the writers consider his idea.

Currently, tune into “Suits LA” every Sunday at 9 pm ET on NBC for fresh episodes. If you’re a fan of Patton Oswalt, you can catch his latest film appearance, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” by subscribing to Netflix and streaming it. Additionally, later this year, you’ll get to hear him again as Matthew the Raven in the second and final season of “The Sandman” on Netflix.
