In the upcoming series “Daredevil: Born Again,” we’re seeing a host of fresh faces join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, an intriguing hint has been dropped suggesting that a cherished character from the “Spider-Verse” might make an appearance in the franchise soon. The series brings back Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle. The third heartrending episode of this show has just been released. The series is brimming with callbacks to the original Netflix series, the comics it’s adapted from, and the broader MCU, even mentioning figures like The Punisher and Spider-Man throughout. However, Episode 3, titled “The Hollow of His Hand,” has subtly referenced a character that fans didn’t anticipate.
Spoilers ahead for Daredevil: Born Again Episode 3!
Episode 3 delivers on its promise to be a legal thriller in the style of Daredevil: Born Again, as it primarily focuses on the trial of Hector Ayala (Kamar de los Reyes). Matt Murdock is determined to prove his innocence for the murder of a police officer. Throughout the court proceedings, Murdock discloses that Ayala is the masked vigilante called the White Tiger and shares numerous police reports detailing the White Tiger’s assistance to the NYPD. Matt Murdock mentions several NYPD officers, among them Officer Morales, a name that should ring a bell with comic book enthusiasts and fans of Spider-Verse, as it is the father of Miles Morales.
In the animated films “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and its upcoming sequel, “Across the Spider-Verse,” Miles Morales has become a widely recognized character. As speculation about which Marvel Comics characters might appear in the upcoming “Avengers: Secret Wars” continues to swirl online, Miles Morales’ name frequently comes up. Although he hasn’t been confirmed for any Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) projects so far, given the success of the “Spider-Verse” franchise, it seems highly likely that we’ll see Miles in the MCU someday.
When Will Miles Morales Appear in the MCU
In the series “Daredevil: Born Again,” Officer Morales’ mention doesn’t mark the first time the MCU has hinted at Miles Morales coexisting in the Earth-616 universe. Previously, in “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” Tom Holland’s Spider-Man met Aaron Davis, played by Donald Glover. This character is Miles’ villainous uncle who also goes by The Prowler. In a scene, Aaron Davis casually mentions having a nephew residing in New York. Subsequently, Marvel and Sony reinforced this reference in “Across the Spider-Verse,” where Glover reappears in live-action after being captured by the Spider Society. Later, it was officially confirmed that this character is the same variant seen in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Although Miles Morales hasn’t been officially announced for any upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) productions yet, Kevin Feige expresses a strong desire to introduce this popular character at some point in the future, albeit not immediately. Prior to his MCU debut, Miles needs to complete his animated trilogy, with Sony Animation’s “Beyond the Spider-Verse” serving as the final installment. As Kevin Feige mentioned, he hopes that soon after this animated series concludes, Miles can make his live-action appearance in the MCU.
