J.K. Rowling brought to life numerous captivating, peculiar, at times frustrating yet endearing characters within the Harry Potter universe, but she recently expressed that fans have become somewhat unusual now that artificial intelligence exists. Following an instance where a fan sent her a photo of herself alongside a much younger, red-haired girl resembling May, Rowling discussed the impact of AI and her perception of beauty. To clarify, she’s not yearning for someone who looks like Ron Weasley.
It seems JK Rowling expressed that she wouldn’t have been attracted to a character like Ron Weasley based on a peculiar image she saw generated by AI, which led her to post about it on Twitter.
Celebrities hold diverse opinions on Artificial Intelligence, with some like Scarlett Johansson expressing concerns over potential misuse in the past. Others, such as Ben Affleck, have shown less apprehension, emphasizing that movie-making creative requirements often take priority over what computers can produce at present. Meanwhile, JK Rowling seems more focused on ensuring factual accuracy regarding AI.
Later on, a reader posed a query to the author, “Hold on, why are redheads problematic?” In the course of explaining her views, she touched upon artificial intelligence and, of course, Ron Weasley as well.
There’s absolutely no issue with redheads; it’s just the particular image I received that made me uneasy. To be clear, Ron Weasley doesn’t embody my concept of classic male attractiveness, that’s all I meant to say.
It’s important to note that in the Harry Potter series, Ron was just a child. If the timeline is accurate, he would be 45 years old today. However, JK Rowling is 59, so there would still be a significant age difference between them if Ron were real. That said, it’s interesting to note that Grint thinks Ron and Hermione might have divorced in the fictional world. So, from a storytelling perspective, Ron could potentially be single again.
Remarkably, the individual who brought Ron to life on the silver screen, Rupert Grint, is just 36 years old. Of course, I’m not implying any romantic connection between him and JK Rowling. In fact, she is married to Dr. Neil Murray, while Grint shares his life with a wonderful woman named Georgia Groome. They even welcomed a child together some time ago.
Regardless, AI raises many complex issues, and it appears the author is suggesting that if given control, she might end up with a partner who resembles her son’s age and has red hair – a scenario that seems unrealistic and uncomfortable to her. This may seem unusual within the context of AI, but it underscores the fact that we didn’t anticipate how deeply intertwined artificial intelligence would become with real-life situations when Steven Spielberg was creating his film AI in 2001.
